I'm in the process of organising my Brothers Stag do and having spoken to him he is keen on going somewhere with decent Mountain Biking, so I was looking for suggestions for places to go....

Basically our requirements will be;

Local Camping
Decent Mountain Bike Routes
Bike Hire (with good number of Bikes for those not bringing theirs)
Local Night Life (he says he'dvbe happy with a local pub!)
Maybe something else to do if not Mountain Biking.

Any help much appreciated.

Mountain Mayhem in Hereford have MTB facilities but I've no idea what they're like. I had my stag do there and did off road buggies and clay pigeon, and I'm going again this weekend and doing hovercrafts and the more powerful off road buggy time trial.

I'll ask them about MTB'ing when I'm there.

Take a look at some of the MTB trail centres in Wales http://www.mbwales.com/index.asp bike hire is available at some of these. Some of the best riding in the UK, I'm off to Coed Y Brenin next weekend which is amazing. Nightlife may be on the more quite side unless you choose somewhere that is near a town/city. In the FAQ section for each centre there is a bit mentioning local nightlife. It should be easy to camp near most of these places.

How about Betws y Coed , good camping , some great pubs(maybe not too good on the women count) then you have a choice of Marin , Penmachno + Coed y Brennin

Or stay in Edinburgh , great nightlife etc (which could spoil the biking due to hangovers)but then some great riding at Glentress and Interlethen.

Just depends on the emphasis of riding or booze n women ? Have a geat time.

How about the Lake District?
Grizedale forest, which is owned by the Forestry commission has a bike shop with hire facility and there are numerous trails marked suitable for all ranges of experience.
There are a couple of campsites in Hawkshead, the local village, which has a few pubs, and is not far away from plenty of bridlepaths if you want to create your own routes.
The pubs do B&B if you don't fancy camping and the queens head does a good steak.

How about . .. your brother gets a life?

How on earth do you expect to mountain bike, dressed as a nun and getting some lap dances in while ratarsed.

The end of the evening must be spent in a busy town center watching from a pub window as the stag is stripped naked, cling filmed to a lamp post with his twig and giggle berries hanging out for the "saturday night girlies" to tickle.

I think you are mixing "stag night" with "biking holiday".

Newport, South Wales has a lapdancing club... apparently, and some good local riding. Not sure about bike hire though, you may have to research that.

you aware this is a biking forum, yes?

besides, who are you to criticise? its his stag do, not yours. he asked for advice, not judgement.

Speak to switchbacks and go to Sierra Nevada, quick flight to Granada and a 30min transfer.

Best MTBing you'll ever do, warm and dry enough for enjoyable camping and good cycling conditions.

Enough towns to find one near a camp site with a taverna :-)
