My bonnet catch will not click and secure the bonnet, any suggestions on what I have to adjust?

Mine does this sometimes - if you look where the cable enters the mechanism it's normally goes into a hole and hits a stop about 1/2 an inch in. Sometimes the cable can fall away and get caught on the lip of the hole, if this happens there isn't enough slack on the cable to allow the mechism to latch properly.

If it's not that, try moving the clamp on the cable wire a bit further towards the end of the wire.

Oh yeh, and best to test the latch first using a screwdriver or something to simulate closing the bonnet and check it can be realeased in the normal way - don't want you to find you're locked out of the engine bay!!

Mark

This was a common problem on TR6s so mine had an emergency wire rigged that you could reach from under the car, just in case. What's the emergency procedure if your cable snaps on TVR?

Cheers Mark, I'll have a go. Had a rather gentle drive into work this morning, didn't want to loose me bonnet!

Mmm, I think I might practice for when the cable snaps on me as well, or even knock up an emergency cable for when it sticks!

Cheers chaps

Right, I've played about with the catch with no luck..... I'll give you a descrption first so hopefully you know what I am waffling about and also to make sure I am not confused on how it should work....

WAFFLE...

There is a main body of the catch that is bolted to the car.

Inside the main body is a leaver used to hold/release the bonnet (There is a cable attached to the bottom of it)

On the outside of the main body is a spring loaded leaver that I guess is used to pop the bonnet upwards once released.

The inside leaver gets pushed downwards by the "dooby what you call it" sticking out from the bonnet and when pushed down far enough should click and hold in that position, holding the bonnet closed.

The cable is attached to the end of the inside leaver by travelling through a "bolt thing" with a hole in it. The bolt thing is attached to the bottom of the inside leaver. The "bolt thing" can be adjusted by the locking nuts on it.

TRIED TO FIX...
Used screwdriver to push inside leaver down and the "stopper clamp thingy" (on the end of the cable) seems to end up touching the "bolt thing" and not allow the leaver to move any further.

I am not sure if the cable is "on the lip" got a bit confused by that bit, sorry.

I have moved the "stopper thingy" further to the end of the cable that means I can now use a screwdriver to click the lock in place.... but when i try it with the bonnet it still does not work

Well hopefully I haven't completely confused

Cheers
Gav.

OK, it's a Griff so I can tell you this happened to me as well. I did two things:

1) Take the bit of clear rubber tube off the projecting peg (that sticks out from under the bonnet)

2) Unfasten the tension spring on the front of the catch and rotate the over-doofer [(C) Simpo Two] out of the way.

Your bonnett should now close and lock!

I'll fiddle with my over-doofer then and see if it helps, Dam do I have to pay royalties or something for use use of over-doofer (dam it again)

Seeing as it's you, I'll waive the fee - this time!

Home made Chicken Jalfreizi with home grown chillis and a bonnet that closes. I am a happy chappy

I get it... every component is designed with "the item left over when you put it back together". In this case it's the spring!! Some one must have put it back on rather than scratching their head and going "Well I'm buggered if I know where that came from".

you get the points again.

Ta very much

I proved the theory by re-fitting the spring last week, just to make sure. The bonnet promptly failed to lock, so I removed the spring again and added it to my collection of meaningless bits... bizarre.
