lead replacment aditve
Discussion
after posting a few pics yesterday of my freshly painted block and head it was pointed out to me by FWDracer (thanks again) that i didnt have hardend valve seats. This is something i thought chuggaboom would have told me when i bought it from him but i didnt ask so.......
anyway ive been reading up about the lead aditives and im wondering weather or not to use it. due to having bigger valves it has been advised not to re-seat with hardend seats which makes this head useless to me (time and money wasted) so do i carry on with this head and use the aditive once built or do i do my best to smash it in to as many pieces as possible and get a new 1.
3 top aditives researched are as follows: miller VSP plus, redex and castrol valve master all with very good ratings . Has anyone or does anyone use any of these and are they recomended. it will be a shame to smash it up cus its a nice head and i will have to buy new valve set on top of the new head. I have 4 more cylinder heads knocking around, would it be more cost affective to have one of these worked on. thanks..neale..

Castrol Valvemaster PLUS, the one with the Octane booster.
Use it in my min with high compression ratio and used it in my Caterham with a Scholar 1700 crossflow for 22k miles and it was superb.
Dont bother with the rest 'cos they need a bottle per fill up if i remember rightly. Only difficulty with the Castrol one is remembering to keep the bottle upright 'cos they leak. In a min pop it in the rear storage bin, in front of the 'cage leg. On the CAterham it used to roll about in the back and get a bit messy.

(still alive but the min is doing very good impressions of a shelf in the garage)

Why bother with lead replacement when you can get the real deal? TetraBoost is a Tetra-ethyl lead additive which makes proper leaded petrol.

For that price, I'd rather get an unleaded head! Edited by plasticpig on Tuesday 15th April 21:52

On rallies i keep the bottle of additive in the drivers door bin. Of course, I also keep my Lucozade there and one night I almost got the two mixed up. The Lucozade wouldn't have helped with the lead content of the petrol, but what would 'Valvemaster+' have done to me?
peteyou would have got a harder seat of course!
hahaha brilliant.
