Hi,

Does anybody run a TVR as an every day car? I do roughly 6-8000 miles a year and most of it is town based although I do live in the middle of the Pennines and do enjoy quite a lot of back road blasts in my current car, Is it feasible to also use this type of car for the daily commute?

Looking at Cerbera and Tuscan in my price range.

Cheers

GD

I used to use a Chimaera every day no matter what the weather for around three and half years, I did around 10-12k a year, never had a problem.

Hi, i drive a cerb as a daily driver although i have only done so for a month. I don't have to communte very far so can't comment on how driving around town is.

Teh fuel bill is higher than my last car and it's a bit more awkward to park but the looks and comments i get when i go to put in petrol or arrive at work make it all worthwhile.

Do it, whats the worst that can happen? if it doesn't work out then you could always get another car and keep the cerb/tuscan as a second car?

My Chimaera is used virtually everyday and every drive still has a sense of occasion.

It depends as much on your mind set as the car.
If you fancy yourself as someone who could cope with a claasic car as an everyday car then go for it. Ensure you have PLENTY of dosh. I know people who earn £200K plus who wince at the TVR running costs (but they wouldnt do any work themselves).

A TVR as an everyday car? I reckon it'd be OK... most of the time!

Good luck hunting for the right car!

I feel your pain with parking dificulties. My GF is due to pass her test later this year, she wont have anywhere to park her car though

My first TVR a Chimaera 4.0 was used daily. I did 50,000 miles in 4 years. thumbup Not that great in snow, maybe that is more me than the car!

100% believe - the more you use them - the better they are.

If you do used it through the winter, my tip is make sure you clean it every week if you can and then at the end of the winter period, I always put it on a ramp and cleaned the whole underneath of the car.

I don't use mine as a daily driver, as I get the train to work, but the Cerbera is my only car.

Done about 60k miles in just under 6 years, great fun - less so in the wet. It's surprising how much 'stuff' you can get in the car if you really have to; I regular use it for the supermarket run, no problems.

Petrol will be your biggest expense, probably closely followed by servicing.

Neil.

It can be done .. but takes a dedicated owner and can be expensive in the running costs and servicing area.

Does anyone have a 100% watertight hood? smile

Mine's not an every day car, but it's largely memories of bailing the water out of my last convertible afetr it had been outside in a thunder storm (with the hood up!) that prevent me from doing so.
