Hello everyone,
sorry I am new to Minis, but I need an engine and gearbox for my sons Mini.
It,s a 95 1275 Mayfair, single point injection.
Does anybody know of one for sale or know if any other model will fit?
I am in Cheshire but don,t mind travelling.
Thanks in advance, Mike

A Metro engine and box will fit, but I think the Metro engine mountings may be slightly different and you may need to mod this to suit a Mini.
If you could find a Metro GT engine you would have c.70 bhp. From memory, the Metro final drive ratio on the GT is 3.77, which would be a good ratio for a Mini as it would improve acceleration a bit.
If you do buy a second-hand engine, it's worth just taking the big-end and main bearing caps off and fitting new bearing shells, plus a new oil pump, timing chain and water pump. Those are all low-cost, but will give you confidence when the engine is installed. You could also check the head and bores whist it's out of the car, as that's also very easy to do.

if you use a metro engine you will need to swop the endcase and the flywheel to allow the injection to work.

has anyone else noticed how hard it is to find metro motors now?

my local scrappy used to have them piled 20 high sat in their subframes. he doesnt even have any metros now - i wish i had bought a few........
