Has anyone ever bought a 360 second hand? Normally I wouldn't think twice about buying a console second hand but I'm a bit concerned about the 360's well documented hardware problems. I would love to buy a new one but I don't have much money, GTA IV is coming and I'm beginning to see a bleak, Liberty City free future stretching out in front of me... Not to mention Forza 2! I've only just started playing Forza 1 on my old xbox and it's the most fun driving game I have ever played. Forza 2 pretty much settled the whole PS3/360 debate for me.

£150 is one without a hard drive right? I found out about these only yesterday, should be easy to put a hard drive into one and I think I have a 40gig hard drive lying about somewhere (I'll go and check this out now...). Thanks for the advice about xbox live, I didn't realise specific machines could be banned.

You cannot use just any hard drive, they are specific to the 360 costing from about £70, much better off getting a premium with one included, and you also get a wireless controller rather than wired. Roll on payday!

Yep I'll add you as soon as I'm up and running, really looking forward to xbox live! Just have to wait until payday (almost two weeks!) and I'm feeling very impatient.

Rather than buy Xbox's own play and charge kit for the wireless controllers (ripoff)
Just get a couple of rechargeable AA batteries and a charger, any kind will do, but the higher the milliamp rating the better (mine are 2500mA)
I was £15 for 4AA duracell's and a charger, had them for over 2 years now, definitely the cheapest option.
Get your network planned out for where you are going to put the 360, there is a network cable included, but its not that long. So if your router is in a different room you will need to run a cable length, as the wireless adaptor for the 360 is expensive and not half as good as a wired connection. the type your looking for is a Cat5 RJ45 patch cable.

Its a plug in device that uses your internal power wiring at a network. Just plug one in both rooms and connect it up.

Power over ethernet is a little different - that's when you send power through twisted pair connections in order to provide a power source for networked devices. The stuff you're referring to is more like "Ethernet over power".

Look carefully at the deals - best to start by working out what you want to end up with, a bundle with an extra wireless controller and one or two good games you would have bought anyway can save you some good pennies over a basic system.
Agree with the batteries one - although I would say (potentially I don't play enough...) I have as some alkaline AA batteries in my controllers and I'm still on the original set.
Network shannagans, well the wireless is £55 or thereabouts, but I use a cable. Now I started looking for these at all the high street/out of town electrical/computer/office places, and they were arounfd £25 for a Cat 6 (not necessary) cable of around 10m. Try Game - you can look under the (apologies for lanuage) PS3 sections too, but an RJ45 cable at 10m is less than £10. They're good too for optical cables (again, half the price of anywhere else) - in fact I got one free with the VGA adaptor (I found this the best way to make the most of the native resolution of my projector)
I run the cable across the landing to my router, and put it away when finished. This is useful to me as it sort of limits me using the 360. Alternatives are complete addiction, shortly followed by singledom and job loss.
Benefit of cable is though it does eliminate one other source of lag, however reports say the 360 adaptor is good, which it should be for the price!

Yep, Viva Pinata worked for a bit, until the pull of Kevtris for my other half (Tetris clone) on her mobile retook a hold.
I'm trying to educate/enthuse her (Sciencebird) in Forza at the moment, despite the adddition now of the wheel and pedals this is not being the easy task I had hoped.
£199 - great deal - I paid £249 before Christmas for the same deal at Game - and I thought that was a good price then.
