Please Help! 1 Mustang + California + 2 weeks, What to do?

Im traveling the US at the moment and decided to rent a Mustang for 2 weeks, Im in San Diego at the moment and have got to return the car in 2 weeks, again in San Diego.

Not so botherd about spendin days by the beach etc. I just wana drive the best roads, any advice?! I was thinking up to San Fran, then Yosemite and back through Death Valley.

Apart from route 1 are there any other 'must do' roads????

Latigo Canyon Road is great, when you're passing through Malibu take a drive up there!

Have you seen much of California before? If not, there's a few threads on this subject - but one recurring recommendation is Hearst Castle - amazing place.

The Pacific Coast Highway - Big Sur etc? I really want to do that at some point. Apparently there are some really fun stretches where the PCH goes through the mountains.

That has to be done, it's amazing! Maybe not the best driving road in the world (Nor is the 'stang the best car to drive in the world) but it's simply stunning.

I cannot suggest what you should do, as I don't know your tastes and passions etc. However, this is what I did as a road trip with a mate of mine -
San Francisco
San Fran - Yosemite
Yosemite back to San Fran and onto the Pacific Coast Highway
PCH to Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara to Death Valley
Death Valley to Vegas
Left Vegas earlier than planned after mates severe financial haemorage
Vegas to San Diego
San Diego to Venice Beach from which to do LA
LA to London

I spend a lot of time in LA and have also done San Francisco and Nappa. San Fran is a weekend maximum and nothing more.

Thanks for all the replys! Unfortunatly i couldnt get the car.

Got my taxi down to the company and had a good old snoop around the car, 3.8 v6 2002 model

Got down to the paperwork and was then told that they dont accept my card!

Oh well, ill just have to stick to the train and come back anotherday with a big boys credit card...
