A note of thanks and a few first pictures
Discussion
First off, thanks to everybody who helped me decide on a new DSLR in this thread. I ended up going with the Canon 40D and I am chuffed to bits with it.
It's a great camera and soooooooo much faster than my old 300D. Whether it's the camera of the lenses, I'm not sure, but I am really pleased with the pictures it takes. The limiting factor is now undisputedly me.
It got its first outing in anger at Snetterton on Saturday and a few of the results are below. Most of the pictures were taken at 1/200, using shutter priority at 90-250mm. If I had my time again, I think I'd go for a slightly faster shutter, since some of the pictures are a little soft.
A Crossle:

The Cooper Memorial 500 Series (from the 40s and 50s, powered by single cylinder motorcycle engines). No power, no grip, no seatbelts and awesome racing:

Playing with the background saturation a little:

A nicely lary TVR Grantura (he did this lap in, lap out):

Another TVR, dicing with a couple of MGBs:

A Lotus Elite getting swamped by MGs:

The fastest car of the race. A beatifully prepared TR4 and really well driven:

Even the blind squirrel finds the occasional acorn. I am really pleased with this one. Hand-held at 1/200, ~200mm and uncropped (just a touch of curves):

I'd love to hear any thoughts anyone has, whether on the pictures or the processing. I need to get better at this, so please fire away!
