Not so sure I believe it was 'un-manned' thought, despite what they claimed, looks like a regular anonymous hero of the USSR landing that thing, or was their automated technology really that good?

Russian automated systems have always been more advanced than Western systems - they didn't trust the crew. They also extended this to their military aircraft, turning the pilots into little more than radio recievers, with all commands being sent from the ground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gjubQ7SB8I

One of the reasons for the unmanned flight was that the life support system was not functional and it had to fly before a Communist party congress IIRC.
