Handbrake cable - I dont believe it.

So they have managed to bugger up the 3rd attempt for a handbrake cable.

No1 V8s (ordered S3c)
No2 Outer cable wrong length would not fit.

So I sent it back with my old cable - instruction make it the same as this.

Recieved today No3

They have cut my old cable up and put the piece on that gets tie wrapped to the chassis and put the original length of outer cable back on - so its still too short, b******ds.

My body goes back on Sunday and the reason I changed the cable is that it is easier with the body off, therefore I will have to do it with the body on - I am absolutly f**king furious.

Not best pleased.

However because I measured the old one prior to them cutting it up, I know that the outer cable on the driver side needs reducing by 180mm, I am visiting a motorcycle restorer and a car garage tomorrow that may be able to make the change (phone calls sound positive)- otherwise I will send it back with a f****wit proof labeled picture that can not possibly fail, Hang on - thats what I thought I did when I sent the original cable to them, so maybe not, if that is the case they better brace themselves as I will deliver myself (where the sun dont shine).

Still furious.

Sean I can still get over to Speedograph Richfield if your desperate - I know someone who's used them before and he said they were brilliant.
Do I take it that it isn't a standard sierra item then?

Hi Chris, I am going to see I can get it changed today (am), if not time becomes irrelevant (within reason), I wanted to do it prior to the body going on - which is happening tomorrow. Its basically a Sierra cable with a couple of foot cut of it or not if you send to the wrong place.

As I have not got the original anymore are there any drawings / sketches available anywhere ?

Is it really difficult to do with the body on ?

My luck is out, therefore I have sent it back, they will need to make sure this one is correct, which I dont know how they will do that as they have obviously cut the original one up.

Any sketches / drawings ?

Not a clue about a drawing I'm afraid.

I removed the lever as you must have to get the body off - then the only other difficult bit I've found is the bracket under the rear drivers side (I haven't released it yet but it doesn't look hard).
I think if you don't put the driveshaft back on till you've done the handbrake cable you should be OK.

Sean I know I have rear discs but I can measure my cable if you think it would help.

If I remember correctly I got mine from David Gerald, fitted perfectly but can't remember how much I paid.

Rockey was it off the shelf. I may suggest to them that they purchase one from elsewhere as their supplier obviously doesnt know how to make them correctly.

Thanks for the offer Chris, Im not sure if there would be any benefit though.

I was thinking should I run a piece of rope around, then draw the new cable with it ?

I think if you leave the propshaft and driveshafts off there's plenty of room - you just need to get right underneath.

Im sure I will work it out, I am going to ring around and see if I can source another one and get them to buy it - Please advise anywhere I can try , I really dont want more problems and after 3 attempts my confidence is no longer and they need a pattern to recreate for other customers in the future, so a brought out one is in both our interests.

I will write a carefully tactful email explaining the above to them, yesterday when I rang they tried to make a joke out of it - after I explained he was as funny as a itchy ar****le and twice as irritating he requested me to stop shouting, which in the circumstances was very difficult.

I am really getting excited about getting the body on tomorrow and I found myself trying to make the exhaust noise whilst driving my Honda around today. Another positive step towards completion me thinks.

Handbrake cable No 4 - guess what - they have left a spring off this time - so back it goes again.

Therefore no MOT this week.

More colourful words will be used tomorrow - maybe they dont understand my displeasure.
