I work full time in marketing, and am trying to get some photography work in my spare time. Can someone explain to me what I need to do with regard to tax - I want it to all be above board. I haven't a clue where to start!

Any help will be much appreciated - I looked into it briefly and got confused as the options seemed to be a) full time employment or b) self employed, whereas I'd be doing both I guess??

Cheers

You can do both. You just need to account for the money and do a tax return. You'll get a good accurate reply, probably from Eric Mc, if you try the Business forum.

I keep any photography revenue in a separate account & do my tax return accordingly.

You have to tell them about your side-line but Revenue and Customs might deem your photographic activities as a 'hobby'.

"I've earned £400 pounds this year from photography but I've spent £10,000 on reclaimable business expenses; please can I have a tax rebate against my PAYE earnings."
