Here we go again. Search facility is not working so I scrolled back 20 pages before giving up.

My insurance is due and MSM are offering £785.30 full comp. 5k miles, protected NCD. and I'm just coming up on 59 years old.

Seems a little steep to me but I seem to remember there was a new company a number of owners were now using.

Can anyone offer company names so I can start ringing around?

Cheers
Steve

Steve, depressing as it is, it may be that that you are approaching the age that insurers regard to be a little more of a risk?
My 86 year old Nan just had a quote of £600 to insure a car that is only worth about £500 and although I realise that insurance is more about the third party, I was really surprised that it was so much.

I got me renewal notice from MSM yesterday and it is £60 cheaper than last years (no changes in circumstances either). I was a little worried that having my windscreen replaced on a £60 excess would have an effect (although it shouldn't, it did cost £1200+ to replace and fit).

I really struggled with insurance because I wanted high mileage - all the usually recommended companies ran away when I asked for 15k+ a year in an Ultima.

Good old Pace Ward came up with the goods.

I could have got more milage allowance for very little money , but my policy allows 5K miles and I didnt see the need to get more tbh.

My insurance, with MSM, was due for renewal 2 weeks after my recent "incident". The premium before was £489. After agreeing to a >£20K repair, the premium increased to £560. Not too bad me thinks!

Those are the sort of figures I am looking for but MSM want £785 and Hagerty £760.
Will check out some of those others.

Re the age thing, Hagerty only asked if I was over 25 so their quote is not weighted in that way.

Well, with a name like that I felt compelled to give the fella a call. Despite the fact that he is Australian, ( only kidding, I don't have a problem with this at all in fact some of my best friends are Australian, and they are Abo's, short Abo's at that and with limps getmecoat ), he is a very nice man, dig this; 3k miles p/a, 4 X track days included, covered for 97K ( as long as I have receipts to prove what it cost, and I do, well most anyway yes ), under £500!
Steve, I mentioned you to him and he said to give him a call, they are not ageist and he has nothing against the colour y e l l o wthumbup and assured me that he will "see you right Mate".

For those of you that swap insurance companies (which excludes me because I have stayed with the same for the last 4 years), how do you decide/agree on the value of the car? Surely this changes each year, but I do not fully understand what would happen in a total loss situation etc. Any ideas?

The agreed value of the car is stated on the policy document (which you provide). I pressume if it was a total write off then they would likely in any event of a dispute, have an assessor value it according to year milage and spec as with other cars
