2001 Passat 1.9 tdi with an intermitant boost fault. The car has been driving great for some time. Having an 80,000 mile service including a cam belt change last week the car was better than ever. The car would boost as normal for a 5-10 mile drive then suddenly nothing, no boost. Stop the car, turn off, restart, all normal again for a few miles.
I've checked the hoses around the turbo/intercooler and various vacuum pipes, but nothing amiss.
Yesterday, took the car back to the garage that serviced the car to have the fault codes checked, this is what they reported: CODE 17965 TURBOCHARGER PRESSURE CONTROL LIMIT EXCEEDED INTERMITANT FAULT.

What does this mean? Been told it maybe a holed/split pipe, but i've checked these!
HELP! PLEASE OFFER ME SOME ADVISE.

The code means that the turbo is running more pressure than the ecu will allow which is probably why it seems to be going better than ever, whats happening is that the ecu is seeing that the boost level is too high then putting the car into limp mode to prevent any damage to be done to the engine.
It sounds as if a pipe has been left off or possibly a sensor left unplugged from memory (i've not done one for a while) you dont have to remove any boost pipes as the front of the car unbolts and provides access to the timing belt so it may be that something has been disturbed causing the problem.

The first things i would check would be the boost control solinoid and the actuator on the turbo then go from there.

Hope this helps Neil.

as said its a sensor seeing to much pressure so could be a valve stuck shut somewhere. id get onto a vag forum and ask a few questions as to the most likely causes.
