Buying advice Audi 2.6 Convertible
Discussion
FGess has her eyes on this:
Bright yellow Audi 2.6 convertible
97 on P plate 66K.
Looks like a bit of fun - anything we should look out for on an 11 year old Audi, or are they hewn from granite?
TIA

Had one of these for about 6 years, mine was bluey green withe cream leather and walnut trim with 17's and powerflex bushes.
It went like a train and only cost me the standard servicing (once i replaced the standard bushes!),
ENGINES
Pretty much bullet proof, make sure its had the cambelt changed every 5 years if it needs it get the garage to do it as its about £400 at a main stealer.
BRAKES:
The rear calipers are a little prone to sticking (about £80 a side if required).
SUSPENSION:
Replace front wishbone bushes with powerflex- or youll be replacing the standard ones quite frequently, powerflex fixes this full stop.
GEARBOX:
Just check synchro and that the clutch biting point isnt right at the top of travel
ROOF:
Check the roof works properly, the plug on the pump can sometimes become partially disconnected which leads to interesting car/roof sculpture, the pump is on the o/s in the boot - jut plug it back in and you should be ok.
Rear plastic screen will either have been replaced by now or will be fogged and require replacing - try to get the dealer to sort it for you if its fogged as the roof has to come off to replace it, I found a good guy in milton keynes who was far cheaper than anyone else but it was over a hundred quid.
The rubbers on the roof which touch the windows need to be lined up properly or else they will leak into the car - you can tell this by listening for whistling from the top or rear of the front windows.
BODY:
Look under the arches for rust, these bodies are galvanised but if repaired badly will rust around the lips.
Check sills for damage from improper jacking (not rubbish hip hop moves) - these cars are heavy and the sills are very structural as there is no roof.
INTERIOR:
Check in the pasenger footwell for damp as this indicates the pollen filter / windscreen plenum trim isnt fitted properly and this leaks into the blower motor / resistor pack. Check the fan runs on all three speeds if not its probably the resisitor pack.
The bulbs in the VDO gauges (in front of the gear stick) are a bit of a pain to replace if blown but a minor niggle if you cant be bothered to replace them.
On the subject of bulbs, check the airbag warning light comes on and goes out - some people take the bulbs out, swiftly moving on...
ICE:
If you like your sounds then ditch the standard speakers in favour of some proper replacements, pioneer and kenwood make speakers to fit in the dashboard holes so you cant see them, the rears are easy to retrofit with a new speakers.
Hope this helps, I'm seriously considering buying another as I seriously regret selling mine.

I've got a 1994 L 2.6 Coupe and love it, only problem I've had was a rear wheel bearing.
Recently went to a RR day at Paramount Performance and for a 14 year old car with 145k on the clock I got this power figure (the book figure is 150bhp):

Going to be a sad day when it goes up for sale soon

148BHP - thats a good result isnt it, they were 150PS new!
I've got a 94 2.8Q Coupe 174PS, would be interested in knowing whats that pushing. Also got a modded S2 but i must say - prefer the smoothness of the V6 anyday if wanting a motorway cruise.
As mentioned above, 2.6 smooth bulletproof engine, just make sure cambelt done. Overall for a roofdown reliable summer cruiser...def the perfect car! (not sure about that yellow tho..
