Hi guys, I have a 2000 1.8t that screams at me on start up that it is boiling and taht I should STOP!!

Clearly it isnt, I think the frost has got into a connection somewhere, is it that simple or code for something else? Always stops again after a few minutes drive. Sender unit?

Any help appreciated.

Very likely to be the temperature sender - it's common fault on these.
Relatively low cost (about £20) and easy diy.
Have a looksee onwww.uk-mkivs.net for a how to guide.

If not that, then possibly the connection in the wire on the header tank? I've had mine play up before (on a different Golf admittedly)!
Good luck,

Definatly a faulty coolant expansion tank. Very common on mk4 Golfs/Leons and A3s. Usually once you've switched off the ignition and restarted it again it works fine? The bottle is responsible for the light and the sender is responsible for the gauge.

Had this on my TT when we had those frosts a month or so back. Soon went and I assumed something had gotten a bit chilly. A month later and all is well and don't get the warnings now its warmer.
