We got a new Olympus digital camera for Xmas and in transferring all the pictures to the PC I managed to deleat them off the camera before the transfer had finished. Obviously I am in the dog house now. Someone who is a bit of a computer guy reckons that the card could be taken out and put in a card reader and the images will still be there. Anyone know if this is true and where one might find such a reader?

thanks in advance for any replies

You can get a card reader just about anywhere, think mine was from Tesco

If the cards still in the camera, can you still see the pics on the camera screen?

Edit - I didnt read the post too well...! If you deleted them off the camera, I think they're as good as gone

There is software out there that might be worth trying, google something like digital image recovery and see what's about.

If you're not sure - best thing is don't touch the card as any use of it will make the recovery less likely. Take it to a camera shop and they will probably have a service or know someone who can help. There are various software packages available I think (although you have to pay) so that you can do it yourself. Good luck!

I have Lexar Image Rescue (it comes free with Lexar Pro cards) - it's about 6Mb; PM me your e-mail address if you want to try it.

I used Zero Assumption Recovery http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm  to recover images from my SD card.
(From their website)...
"The digital picture recovery functions are implemented in the trial version of ZAR 8.3 in full. Hence you just need to download the evaluation version of ZAR 8.3 and it does the job at no charge. So, picture recovery functions are actually freeware. There are no plans to charge for it."
I believe that this will work either from a card reader, or from the camera itself.

Thanks for all the advice. As my technical skills have been brought into question by my daughter, who featured heavily in the photos I deleted, I took it to our local camera shop. They have the equipment to do it if possible and charge a tenner to put it on to disc. Not the end of the world unless you are a teenage girl who's dad doesn't read instructions.
