Glad to hear of an alternative. Can you deal with Cerberas? I look forward to finding out more.

I'd be interested to see details of the pricing for servicing, particularly as Logik TVR have now released their price list. The fact Logik is in Dunfermline is a minus point unless they are going to offer free courtesy cars or something.

I've heard from a very reliable source that this would be a very bad thing.

In what respect? Legal or reputation of engineers?

Reputation of the engineers. A number of horror stories have arisen since Brandon dumped their disgruntled customers onto the new dealer.

I heard (from someone at Brandon) that some of the technicians had moved to Logik along with the franchise.
Anyway, back to the original point - Nick, any more news about this new set up?

I've dealt with one particular engineer at Brandons, who's now moved to Logik, and I've always found him helpful, knowleagable and corteous. However, booked my car in recently for Cerbera recall and idling problem and found out that the earliest date I can take it in is 28th January!!! Apparently their so busy that they've not even PDI'd the silver Tamora!! Anyway, details of Edinburgh based setup sounds interesting. Are you TVR approved?

Logik only employed one guy from Brandon because he was the only one worth employing - they did their homework apparently - and are now looking for more staff from elsewhere. They are extremely busy just now, particularly with problematic cars that Brandon dumped on them.

Hi my name is Noel Flannery some of you will know of me already as I have been a factory trained TVR Technition since 1993. I was chief mechanic at Brandon motors between 93 and 99, at that time we had a very good reputation I do beleive that things have been different since. Interesting what you were saying about the Technition at Logic he is very good he has been on the cars for four years now and received training from myself before I left. You are corrrect in saying that he was the only technition from Brandon to go to Logic, they asked me and customers of brandon about him and they came to the opion that he was the only one worth having.
Since 99 I left and set up my own buisness which for the first nearly two years was a mobile service in which i went to cleints homes or buisnesses and carried out work on thier TVR's. I have been very busy so decided to move the buisness into a garage which is situated 15 min's out side Edinburgh near Haddington East Lothian. I offer a pick up service for those cars in Edinburgh and beyond and all work is carried out to way and above factory standards. Services take depending on the models from 8 to 20 hrs and all TVR's are catered for from Vixen rewiring to Cerbera lap top tuning all work can be done. Suspension rebushing on Griff and Chim are being caried out just know as clients want thier cars handling tip top for the coming season. I also carry out motorsport preperation on the TVR's, from sprinting were a Griffith 500 I prepare just won the Guyson speed championship to the Tasmin Challange. Please call if you would like to know more or to see the race cars being built.
Work is charged out at £35 per hour and services on Griff/Chim start at £345 plus vat

Noel V8/Motorsport, gald to have some options in Scotland as I am not happy with Logic, called them regarding work on my Cerb in Nov, no one came back, called them again Dec, e-mailed, faxed requesting a convinent time/collection of my car, no call. Taking my car to Dreadnought in Stirlingshire (closer for me but will bear you guys in mind) to have the work done. Logic need to be aware of customer service, anyone else had good/bad experience ?
As for Brandon when I purchased the car the sales side was brilliant lots of help and assistance a bit sad to see them move away from TVRs but the workshop was very poor, car went back numerous times to rectify problems that should have been sorted.

Nice to have some choice for servicing in Scotland at last.

Do people think that by not having your car serviced by Logik you will take a hit when it comes to selling - either privately or as a trade-in with Logik?

Looking at the prices quoted I would say that going with a specialist like Noel could be up to 50% cheaper than using Logik which is interesting.

As for Brandon, I would echo what other have said. Excellent sales staff but other than that, very disappointing.

I recently bought a 97P 4.2 Cerbera and heard of NOELV8 through my motorsport involvement shortly afterwards. I called him to discuss any pitfalls I might encounter (stable door - horse bolted etc.)
I was relieved to discover that he had known the car and original owner since new and all should be as I had prayed ! He spent a long time on the phone with me and was a great reassurance.
On reading his post I realised :
1. He probably knows most or all of the cars sold by
Brandon until he left and how good each was.
2. Logik's headhunted, thus probably best, technician
was trained by him.
My plan is to have him do all the work on my car, starting next week with a check and minor niggles, as knowing his reputation and charges I believe it is by miles the best option. Sadly, however, I also believe that far too much emphasis is placed on the FTVRSH when it comes to reselling and will have to weigh up the horrid prospect of having to spend a fortune with a main dealer each year to get the book stamped on a car which I would rather they did not touch.
IMHO all main dealers believe they are the only people who know enough to touch your car and will teach you a lesson if you try to trade it in or they examine it on behalf of its potential new owner unless they have stamped the book each time.
No doubt each year I will have to present my " already fixed by NOELV8 car " to an official dealer to keep the book up to date. From some of the invoices I have seen I imagine the main dealers expect to be able to add a lot of repairs each time they do a service. I look forward to some heated discussions !
When looking for a Cerbera I viewed a 97R with 29000 mls and a full TVRSH with all invoices for service and repair, totalling over £15000.00 (none for engine work or accident damage)- it was still a dog. If a main dealer takes 50p per mile in maintenance I strongly suspect the owner was severely shafted.
The solution lies with us when buying secondhand. If we learn to accept a specialist history we all benefit. If not we just keep paying out. It surprises me on these posts how many people are advising only buying from main dealers, who on principal would not go near a car without a main dealer history. I ran Porsches over some years using a specialist with great success, but this is seen as OK on older Porsches and does not affect their value.
The solution to all this lies in our own hands. Personally, if I decide to keep my car longer term, it will never see a main dealer as I think the costs of this will outweigh any reduction in value.
I would be interested to hear if any of you would buy my Cerbera were it absolutely right but with a specialist history starting at 22000 mls ???

As a new owner its great to have more options when it comes to servicing. Although I was prepared for the servicing charges that come with ownership I would quite happily get my car serviced by Noel and never put it near Logik again.

If I save money (which seems very likely having just seen the costs of Logik) and my car is running fine then that's all that counts. The only downside is that when I come to sell my carI might be forced to do it privately. It would be interesting to see what Logik would do when faced with a TVR serviced by an independent specialist. No doubt you'd take an instant hit in its value but I don't see why this should matter if you sell privately.

Can you buy a Scotsure warranty yourself or does it have to be through a dealer?

Any views/advice?

the thing is most of the top guys from the dealers up and down he country are left in a bit of a prdicament on what to do next they stay as they are for the rest of there days or they start up on their own. As i have done and richard smith has done at peninsula. We rely on our reputation's to get the work whilst the dealers will have all the work they can handle any way.

Service history wise many of the specailists like me have got to the stage were they have people who would not buy a TVR unless i have looked after it and know the car. Often I have put someone on to a car that has came up that may be six years old that I screwed the no plates on to and have done every service since.

Warrantys are available outside dealers you can buy them direct from the co's.

And get the work done any where that is Vat registered and knows the product.

I have a '96 Chimaera 400 ,This was bought from Brandon's . Noel did the sell in '99 because he had done all the service work, 78,000 miles of service work, he still servicing the car along with Connelly's in N. Ireland .
His good servicing gives you , no engine rebuilds , orginal clutch , has now covered 102,000 miles . If you live in Scotland and don't ask Noel to check out your car then expect the worst .
Noel is the best TVR Service Man you will get , just ask the TVRCC Scotland & N. Ireland boys.
