Apparently crank sensors have a polarity but, helpfully, there is nothing on the beastie to tell me which pin is which. Is there a convention that applies (ie +ve to right as seems to be the case with injectors using the same terminal), or any other way of telling (apart from plugging in and seeing if it works)?

With the sensor held so that the connector has the lug at the top, on mine the right hand terminal has a positive signal at the start of the tooth and a negative signal at the end of the tooth.

Megasquirt always triggers off the trailing edge so with this it's easy to tell whether the polarity is right by monitoring the tooth timing while the engine is turning. (When it's right, you see one big gap; when it's wrong you see two smaller gaps.) Depending what ECU you're using there will probably be a similar technique to see whether you've got it the right way round.
