Hi .
I would like to see if any of you actually race the car. And if so where does a car with let say 500hp hp engine with slicks and stiffer supsp. set up stands in lap times compered to other racing cars. I have eared a lot about how fast the car is on the road, accelerating , ect, but I am trying to find out if the car with racing set up, is competitive with other racing cars.
I am soon starting my Ultima kit proyect ( getting it in April) and I would like to know if the car is competitive in order to focus on eather a fully racing assembly ( sequential, single seat, stiffer susp, data acquisition, ect) or on a more livable car for the road ( G50, 2 seats, air cond, cd radio.. ).
I would really appreciate your inputs.

thank you

It has alot more to do with the type of series that you are eligible to compete in rather than using your car, whatever the spec is, to race others in any category that you choose.

Lucky P has a few videos with him following a Porsche Cup racer that is not getting away.

If you do a search you will find reference to at least one PH driver who did compete with his Ultima but it was so fast the race organisers kept adding weight to penalise it. I think he gave up when the wheels would no longer go round.

Mine is about as lardy as it gets. Aircon, Sat Nav, DVD player etc. You could shed 80kg from my spec with ease, and with the right springs and dampers you could get the car to go really flat. With slicks you'd be faster.

As a guide, mine'll do 1.15 at snett on std factory springs, Kumho V70s (track day treaded tyres). With the stripped out minimum, slicks and all the spec you say, I'd guess at 1.08.

What sort of cars does that put in your league???

Gian, if you want the Ultima for serious racing a long way is in front of you. I followed a few teams in the past competing in GT with different level of success. Colin Blower's GTR was probably the largest modified GTR but with no good results in the british championships. The people from Master Motorsport had achieved some good results and good performances while they were on track but gearbox problems and crashes pushed them out of good overall positions.
Qvick Motors and Grasser Racing in Belgium were competing in the Belcar series with remarcable results but in my honest opinion at expensive price.
A common point for all them is the fight to remove weight from the car and the suspension modifications which it makes me to think that there is something wrong at this point to make the car competitive on track. To remove weight (and after extensive chassis work) Qvick Motors runs their GTR's with BMW straight six and light Holinger or Hewland sequential gearboxes. Body work has been extensively modified in weight and aerodynamics (specially at the front)as well as the air flow to the engine for better cooling.
All this means that around extra 100.000€ were spent to modify a GTR in order to fight against Porsches, Vipers, Ferraris etc.........Is it economically correct ? You choose.

Regards and apologizes for my poor english (what a disaster !!) wink

Grasser did quiet good....
Derdelaere had good results...
Qvick I didnot follow..

100K...well spend..
What is that money compared to a ferrari or porsche, in the same class? They don't come cheap, you know.

I think the Mossler is in basic a better race car.
But of course a few belgian dolars more expensive.......

As a basis I would choose the Stealth......I love it.
About Porsches and Ferraris etc......I agree they are not cheap but IMHO there are no secrets to make them competitive.....just need money to do the job. With the Ultima you need time for "try and error" method.

I think your first consideration is to find the series that you would like to race in and confirm that you are eligible then decide what spec engine etc you need..
I raced in the midenginedsportscar series in 2006. My car war completely standard with air conditioning. – The only modification I made was an increase in the spring rates in the second race. I had an engine built with relatively low bhp so that it complied with the 330bhp/ton but had lots of torque.
Never raced before so built my speed up slowly. After winning the 2nd and 3rd race they told me I had to carry an additional 200kg of ballast and reduce my tyre size which meant new wheels etc.
Start of 3rd race http://www.pistonheads.tv/clip1187  hence the penalty.
My car puts out 311bhp at the rear wheels and with the extra ballast I was already carrying it weighed 1120kg (without my 96kg frame) so I was well within the regulations. Several of the cars were fully race prepared Lotus with various engines (Supercharged Honda and Audi units) some prepared by professional teams who didn’t like a new boy winning and changed the rules for me only (I’m not bitter furious as I won the series off the 3 races biggrin )
I was considering Britcars and was told last year I would be eligible but in January was told by the organisers that they would not accept my entry but suggested I join Britsports and follow the LMP type cars around – no thanks

^So tell us Joop, if you are so excited by the B6, why are you building an Ultima?

Not sure if your question is for me .......I already had the Ultima when I saw the B6 the first time. The problem is that it is too radical to pass the spanish SVA and put it on the road. By other hand too expensive for just a trackday beast.wink

Thats not very British! I feel this kind of thing happens a lot. My uncle ran an Ultima a few years ago in the "Privalige GT championship " and started to climb up the ranks quite well, but the costs are just too high for "normal" people and so he pulled out. I thought the idea was to have healthy competition in these smaller classes? Didn't I read that Ted Marlow had similar problems years ago because his ultima was too fast? They changed to rules to something fair like "any car can compete unless its name has a U in front and an A at the end"

If the majority of Ultima owners, ( me included ), were not worried about sharing a track, with say, a dozen other Ultima's and in fact if they actually WANTED to race in the first place, we could start our own series idea
How about a track day!
When you think of it, being on here is a bit like racing round a track is it not? Well, it does seem like we are going round in circles doesn't it? yes

Ultima Racing - Now your talking! Obviously we would need a few rules....

RED cars only in the front line up on the grid.......
CAN-AMs to have hair dryers fitted for safety ............
BLACK cars at the back as they are the slowest........ etc

Paul, you have the basic grid positions correct, but the theory is all to cock.

r e d cars only in the front line up on the grid......well obviously, being Ultima drivers and therefor gentlemen it would only be fair to let the slower cars with the least able drivers have a head start yes
Can Am's to have hair dryers fitted for safety...........at first I was a little puzzled by your logic here but then it hit me! Obviously the grid girls may need to have a few last minute alterations made and who better to attend to their needs than our very own specialist follicle squad of Can Am coiffures thumbup
BLACK cars at the back as they are the slowest........stands to reason really if the poorly coloured slow cars are at the front it makes sense to save the best until last and have the correct liveried and fastest cars to follow up the rear and save the day bandit
Why is it always down to me to set you fellas straight 'eh?
