Guys, just stumbled across this due to john185k's thread about his honeymoon pics. I was looking at DSLR's but as a complete amateur I am just wondering whether I would be best plumping for something like this and then upgrading to a DSLR in time?
Does anybody know what the shutter speed is like on these?

Thanks

As you can get a Canon 400d with lens for £300 at the moment I see no reason to buy a non compact all in one camera. Once you've used and focused with an SLR camera, point and shoots will drive you mad.

Who is doing the 400D with lens for that price at the moment? I am currently looking at www.bhphotovideo.com - some of the prices there are very tempting. Has anybody had any experience of ordering from these guys?

Tesco @ around £350 then Canon are doing £45 cash back at the moment, so around £300.

BH are fine but you'll get hit with import duty, camera will only have US guarantee, usually doesn't work out cheaper.

You might find this thread about the s6500 useful http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=471...

I think it's a pretty good camera for the price.

I have a fuji s5600, the 6500 is a step up, they are surprisingly capable little machines and you can buy one direct from fuji (refurbished) for £120 now. linky here: https://secure.fujifilm.co.uk/shop/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/d-slr-long-zoom/finepix-s6500fd

Bought my 400d from Tesco - was the cheapest I could find and delivered to my local shop so I picked it up at the same time as a bit of shopping. Also, we collect the points so I got 360 points for buying the camera and also paid with Tesco credit card so may get a few more. I'll look at the cashback thing tomorrow.

I bought this camera recently and have to say I have been impressed. Used to have a sony T7 compact. The quality of the shots have been very impressive . the focussing seems fine , but then i am only an amateur. The manual zoom is a definite bonus, something that is lacking in the newer model (s800fd).

One other thing that i was pleased about was its low light ability, with no blurring, something that was always a problem with the sony.
