I'm off to EuroDisney with the family soon and wondered whether those of you that have gone before think it's worth taking the SLR? I'm thinking it will make more sense just to use my compact and the video camera - less to carry and with kids in tow, easier to cope with. Is there enough photographic interest to justify the SLR?

I'd stick with a compact that you can keep in the pocket, saves you worrying about carting the SLR around and although there probably will be opportunities for nice shots, I don't think it's worth the hassle of the SLR. All IMO of course. And taking 3 cameras seems somehow excessive :P

I took mine - figured that the "unusualness" of the situation was worth the effort.

Had a couple of small "OMG!" moments with water on rides, but nothing too bad. I'm glad I didn't take the compact, because it wouldn't have been capable of taking some of the shots I got (from the stunt driving display, for example).

I suppose it all comes down to personal preference and what you want to take photos of. I'm glad I took mine though. smile

ahhh - that's one vote each! So, anyone want to cast the deciding vote (or show some of their photos from Disney?)

I'd only take the compact. My reason would be the type of shots you'll be expecting to take. Probably snaps rather than "photographs". Also the compact will be a lot easier to take on rides etc.

Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

If I had the choice between taking my 1D or G9, I'd be taking the G9.

I believe the score is 3 - 3 wink

I took mine to florida last year. Mini trekker backpack, camera, 3 lenses, spare batteries, plus you've places for food, drink, clothing etc. It also has the neat trick of keeping everything dry and safe.

For the parks themselves, a decent walkabout lens and a wide lens works well.

Possibly but tut the 1D is a brick, so you're disqualified smile

Game back on, 3 - 3 wink

take the compact, chances are most of the shots are going to be snapshots and not worthy of stock or anything more than that.

Wouldn't bother with an SLR in Disney, took mine to Florida last year and hardly used it, I didn't think there was much to take photo's of that was that great really.

A little compact would be perfect and you will probably use it more!

I've been to Disney World Florida 14 times in the last 16 years and taken my SLR (film and digital) every time - I wouldn't go without it. Off again in May biggrin

I suppose it makes a change from 'The Sound of Music'. But it's not really a giant talking mouse you know, it's a student with a big mouse costume on. Or shouldn't I have spoiled the surprise?
