X99 - anyone got any experiance with them?
Discussion
I am looking at an X99 out here as a possible candidate for campaigning the Western Circuit / Kings Cup etc. The boat that Is available was very competitive a few years back but seems that its owner moved on to another country and she has been dry stored since.
Anyone got any experiance of these yachts, anything to watch out for, quirks etc.
I used to sail on one about 15 years ago when they were shiny new but there has been alot of beer since then and recolection is not as good as it was!!
To jog memories here is one sailing....

They are old boats now (relatively speaking) so i am trying to go into first viewing with as much info as possible
cheers!

John, only raced one a couple of times & they were damn quick for their size! With the age allowances on them nowadays, I would imagine that they are pretty unbeatable on handicap given the right conditions.
The rigs are pretty spindly, so might be worth a check over by a rigger. Other than that, I have never heard of anything but glowing reports of them...

Cheers for the tips, and yes i had noticed that speed vrs handicap vrs age could make for a rather potent PY boat!

Did you buy it, John?
There is a rumour that we might be moving to Singa in a year or two, so keep a space free for me trimming either the front or back triangle things!
unfortunately not, turned out to have more osmosis bubbles than gellcoat when we dragged her out of the oggin for a poke. There is a rumour that we might be moving to Singa in a year or two, so keep a space free for me trimming either the front or back triangle things!
