Has anybody got advice on which master cylinder to use with KAD 4pot calipers. The standard master cylinder (tall 's' type canister) gives very long pedal travel which is not going to be confidence inspiring in competition.

From memory KAD recommend a 0.75 inch bore M/C. Again from memory I think the standard Mini single line brake M/C is 0.7 inch, but the clutch M/C is 0.75 so you could try that before buying a remote reservoir M/C ??

Quite what you do with the modern twin circuit masters I'm not sure, but I've had metro 4-pots on a modern mini with the twin circuit servo system and not been troubled by an excessively long pedal. It helps if you can ballence up the rear cylinders to match the 4-pot fronts. Also if the rears are not spot on adjustment the pedal can go long.

the clutch master cylinder will not work on the brakes as it has a internal spring and will leave the pads just rubbing the discs (guess how i know, one brand new set of pads wasted, a pair of brand new 998 cooper discs glowing red hot, and a full set of hub bearings scrapped. a very expensive mistake!)

you can use the brake master on the clutch fine.

the bore size wont affect the travel (much), just the effort required to stop the car, i know on my racer i use the minispares 4 pots, but use a normal plastic single line master. the pedal moves about 1/2".

are you sure its not exessive free play else where in the system?

its a common area of complaint when people go onto any four pots, not just the kad ones

its also worth checking that (if the calipers are new) the seals arnt stuck on the pistons and acting like little springs and pulling the pistons back into the body of the caliper. ive seen this a good few times.

I'm using the tall S master cylinder with minispares 4 pots and the travels ok now. But i had a few problems to start with. I found there was a bit of 'suck back' on the pistons from the new seals, the pads were loose and you had to pump the pedal to take up the slack. What happens if you pump the pedal?
