I'd heard rumours that TVR were trying to offload the two cars to concentrate their efforts on Tuscan R's but haven't been able to confirm anything as yet.

OK, Thick guy sitting here! If they 'offload' the Speed 12's, then, what are they gonna run in the GT's this season! Because the Tus R is a GTO car!
Whilst were on the subject, anyone heard what Michael Caine is up to this year?!

Cheers

There was speculation earlier in the year that TVR would run a V10 Tuscan R in the GT category.

Michael Caine was/is still in the frame for the main drive.

Perhaps we'll find out more at next week's Autosport Show. It's all wild speculation currently!

Cainey is racing in the Tuscan Challenge again this year and the factory will not be competing in the GT category.

Well it will be great to see him doing battle in the Tuscans again. I'm surprised at the GT news... Is the GTO battle where it's all going to happen?

Will the Speed 12 ever get to Le Mans? I have always doubted this; however there should be at least 4 Tuscan Rs including the John Griffiths/Shane Lynch car. This car should be testing early in February.

Went to the excellent lecture that TVRs Neil Anderson gave at Loughborough Uni last year on the Speed 12 development.

He did indicate a number of key problems for manufacturers who build AND race their GT car.

Key to this is the fact that insurance co's were reluctant to cover the vehicle since the factory is in a monopoly situation with regard to spares and is not compelled to give a realistic (market value) quotes for rebuilds.

Well the Tuscan season should be good then, but I'll miss the awesome Speed 12 - maybe Michael Caine won't, though, after that smash at Thruxton amongst other things.

I was thinking last night about the lack of Speed 12 in GT and figured it out (I think). One Speed 12 has been sold to a team in Japan (so I'm told by reliable sources) and I don't think the other one ever got rebuilt so in fact there is only one race car in existance.

First of all TVR will have its GT racing department build a TVR Speed 12 for anyone who wants one as long as they have the £188,000+ asking price, but not even there boss has one.

Secondly up to summer time last year TVR's GT Racing team was looking for a second driver for its other Speed 12.

Thirdly they may be selling the cars, but the cars from the years before are dotted about the factory mostly not sheltered.

Fourthly there are three speed 12's and only one to my knowledge actually works.

Funny that, whilst at the factory last summer Danielle said that the W-plate Red Cerbera Speed 12 was Peter Wheelers own car....

Surely they are not going to condem the 7.7l V12 engine after all that developement ????

thoughts please?

There are two "original" Speed 12's in existence... the pearlescent purple one from the motorshow and a white and blue racing spec one.

With regards to the Cerbera Speed 12, there are at least three in existence. Two W-reg road cars - one red (Peter Wheeler's car) and a silver one... then there is the blue racing spec variant that has been seen out on the track.

TVR must be laughing their bits off at the confusion they've created.

Regarding the Cerberas: the silver car has never been seen again since the red one appeared (resprayed me thinks). There were two race cars, which have been blue then black and the other white then black.

As for PW having a personal Speed 12...

What about the different numbers then Ted?

The Red one, which can be seen on the top of the TalkBack pages in Sprint (Page 17 of Febs) is W112 BHG.

The Silver one, Which is on one of the Postcards Issue 8 Number 23, is W312 BFV.

Surely they don't change the bloomin plates as well??
Why do TVR find it so necessary to respray the cars all the time?!?!

PW - Personal Sp12...???

Various plates reappear on different cars during the course of development. Various Tuscans appeared with the same number plate during development.

Is the Cerbera Speed 12 "type approved"? Stealth are having to show the MSA and the BRDC 3 road cars; so is the Speed 12 still allowed to race in the BRDC GT series?

AFAIK, The only Speed12 that ever turned a wheel under it's own power was the White/Purple car as raced by BVR and my Dad (and Shorty once). The original show car definitely never ran as it was a model, the second car was possibly a rolling chassis, but AFAIK never had an engine as the engine was always used in the racer and had to be overhauled a lot, not leaving JR any time to build another one, and what with the development on the 6...

Two racing Cerbera Speed 12's were certainly built, possibly another. Whether any more were produced I'm not sure. Did the silver disappearing road car get tuned into a racer or just resprayed...? Did one of them end up in a private collection...? Heh, you may all laught at one being PRW's personal car. If I was PRW, I'd tuck one away in a corner somewhere as it's the ultimate TVR - certainly to date.

I'll have a dig...
