Afternoon Mini fans! A friend of mine is toying with the idea of a 2.0ltr Vtec engine but to run on bike carbs. Seeing as Vtec is an idea which Peugoet have no comprehension of this is totally new to me confused!

Has anyone done it or knows if it can be done?

Cheers guys!

Certainly can be done, I remember seeing an early VTec conversion in MiniMag I think running on SU's of all things !! VTech has nothing to do with fuel per-sey, but obviously the carbs selected will have to be able to flow sufficient air and fuel to keep the engine happy at all RPM's.

This may be where things get let down on the Bike carb front, I don't know if they can flow enough cfm to supply a 1.6/1.8/2.0 VTec at full bore, but as the bigger bikes rev to much higher RPM than even VTec does maybe its ok.

I guess you would need an aftermarket ignition ecu ?? The VTec is also controlled by the ECU in so far as its an RPM switch which activates a solenoid on the engine, but this too can be achieved in another way.

BoggBrothers have a good rep for making manifolds to fit bike carbs to car engines, I'd give them a shout and ask if they've done a VTec conversion before.

Thanks Phill! I think this will be enough to put this into action as we now have a starting point!

I'll get him registered and he can update the situation!

I'd have a serious look at megasquirt and the stuff you can steal off that. I would go injection and get it set up properly. smile

Different cam timing invariably means different mixture requirements! Carbs could probably be made to work after a fashion, but I suspect they can either be made to work ok at high RPM with VTEC activate or lower RPM when it's not, but not at both.
