Well I've had my EOS 400D for about a week now so thought I should pop over to the parents to give it a go. Let me know what you think, C&C welcome but go easy, I'm just starting!.

Just a few from an afternoons long walk with the dog

Thanks for looking!

Yep, Barmouth. My folks live just far enough away from it so they dont get swamped by the Brummies in the summer months!.

Some nice images there GreenDubber - if it's your first camera, then certainly you have a good eye for a picture and for composition. A little bit of post production in Photoshop (you only need Elements, about £60 new) and you'll be motoring!
As an example I've just adjusted your first pic using shadows/highlights in Elements and you can see a bit more drama in it.

You're on the right track! The more images you take, the more you'll learn.

(Edited to remove the railsign!!)

Thats ace, cheers!. I've had point and shoot digital compacts but I've never been happy with them. I've always wanted a bit 'more' from them as they never seemed to deliver the goods. This is my first DSLR so its a bit of a learning curve but I'm up for the challenge....its great to finally be able to take pictures that I'm happy with.

I'm hopefully going to be getting Photoshop off the other half for my birthday, but who knows what she'll end up buying. Think I may have to over see the purchase to make sure she buys the right thing.

I think you're pics are really good, as with Toothless Jim, I'm in the same learning boat too. I think they're a great start.

I ran over that bridge in a force 10 gale and driving rain when pissed on a stag do in Barmouth...

Spooky. We were on the bridge and beach at Barmouth last weekend - taking some very similar photos, including the dogs on the beach. As usual, none are worthy of posting. I've looked at the 40mph sign many a time knowing that there's a decent photo in it somewhere. Now I know. Cheers.

Seems its the place to be, it certainly is lovely before it gets swamped in the summer. I wanted to get some shots of the bridge with the sun setting behind it but due to the time of year its setting round the corner frown

Been out again this morning to try and get some more snaps but the weathers pants, its misty and its blowing a gale!. Think I'll be shacking up in front of the fire whilst I wait for dinner tonight. Took the dog out and he nearly blew away, poor old chap!. No more playing in the sea today. Few more of yesterdays efforts..

And a couple of Ollie the Collie for good measure....being as I dragged him about all afternoon.

Love your pics, they made me feel all wistful for windswept, deserted beaches. There's something about the coast when the weather is a bit wild and you have to be all wrapped up against it. Lovely.

I love the B&W one in the first set, but the others all show a good eye, too. As others have said, a bit of firtling with levels/contrast/saturation will do wonders.

Yes, a good place to be, especially out of season. The place does sounds more like Dudley than Wales in the summer. I'm feeling inspired now, but we're not over there this weekend.
