Added Parts Support For TVR

Increased parts supply for all post 1990 TVR models

Good news for TVR owning PHers, no we haven't got sneaked details of a new model, but we do have good news regarding parts availability.

Parts giant Multipart signed a contract back in August 2007 to supply TVR dealers with world- wide parts support, and have been doing a good job ever since. However there has been some concern recently about how long current parts stocks at dealers would last. Because of this Multipart has been increasing stock availability to dealers, and have secured exclusive deals on many OE parts including: brakes and clutches from AP Racing, engine gaskets, air filters and NGK spark plugs.

In addition to this, they also have agreed an exclusive deal to supply a full range of TVR body panels and chassis components.

All Multipart stocked TVR parts can now be supplied via your local TVR dealer, with all TVR models catered for that were built from 1990 onwards.

We say good on them, long may existing TVRs live and we are happy to spread the word.

good to see parts may exist, but I think there is some opportunistic pricing going on - I had to pay £50 yikes for a new throttle cable for my Tuscan a couple of weeks ago

I assume MULTIPOINT is a typo...REJN I also paid £49.35 for a Tuscan Throttle Cable and £62.27 for an Oil Sender Unit via Multipart.... but expensive parts are better than none at all biggrin

Like you I don't see why this is good news for anyone except Multipart. Competition keeps prices down, not only being able to buy cluthes or spark plugs from one supplier.

There's plenty of people doing alternative parts for TVRs JR .. no-one is tied to Multipart. Indeed I actively seek out better value parts elsewhere and continue to support in particular clever trevor and tvr car parts who have stood by TVR owners and enthusiasts when the factory parts supply was poor to non-existent.

The beauty of TVRs is that everything is simple and can be manufactured elsewhere to a higher quality / reduced cost .. suspension, brakes, engine components, digital dashboards, electronc control boxes, engine management systems, body panels, exchange chassis, retrims etc etc etc are all available from alternative aftermarket suppliers. Off the top of my head I can't think of one component I would have to source from Multipart.

Great news for the residual values as well as there wont be any concern over the availablity of parts.

Im feeling a bit underwhelmed by this - they seem to be talking about run of the mill consumables; I don't think we were ever in any danger of "running out of" spark plugs, filters, brake pads etc. Are they going to have a rear screen (or even the retaining clips for it!) to fit my Tuscan? I'm not so sure... but I hope to be proved wrong! smile They do mention body panels etc but I'm assuming they'll get those from the same places we would go now. I suppose the upshot is that getting parts ought to be more convenient for people who aren't into hunting around or searching PH forums - or even those who are!

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick, but it sounds like the current independent suppliers of the more specialised parts have nothing to worry about...

Cheers,

FT.

Are there NO positive people out there anymore?????????????

Yes I will continue to support small independents because they give us good service, yes I will try to improve poor "original" parts on my car but isn´t it great that a big company guarantees supply with spare parts for our beloved cars- keeping their value up and us on the road- a expensive throttle cable is better then a car laid up because of the absence of one!

Can we please be positive- nobody forces us to purchase at a certain supplier

...but why pay £50 for a throttle cable when you can get all the parts to make your own for less than £10.....????
I think the things that might cause a car to be laid up would be wishbones, chassis parts...things like that....not spark plugs air filters and basic consumables...

Fair enough, I just don't think they are guaranteeing anything that was ever in any doubt. It's a shame that TVR news has been so bad in the past few years that someone offering to sell us parts we could already get, is actually considered news.

At last, sounds like a good source of quality parts instead of the usual lower quality items available form most of the independents. bandit

Please don't get me wrong, any parts are good, however, quite a lot are not as good a quality as could be, and some of the prices for these inferior parts are a little excessive to say the least.

I for one am pleased and if the prices are similar or even slightly higher, as long as the quality is better.

Multipart have a good reputation and only time will tell, but a little competition is good for everyone and for those not convinced this is a good move, you can keep going to your current sources for parts.

Jusy my thoughts anyway blah

I think the reason why some comments might appear a little negative, is because TVR have set up the deal with Multipart http://www.tvr.co.uk/news.php .
After the goings on with TVR Engineering/Blackpool Automotive I would imagine getting some of the old TVR suppliers to supply Multipart might have proved difficult.

This is a little "off topic" but are you as amused as me that on following the link on the TVR website the last news is from early(ish) 2007 but it is still on line and further clicking gives yiou the impression that you could actually order a test drive with "current" models and probably even buy on via "main dealers"
Beautyful virtual world...

I spoke to Multipart a month or so ago about chassis availability and they are now manufacturing these in house along with wishbones etc. They have all the original jigs for doing this. I never asked about body panels as I had no interest however I assume they are manufacturing these as well. Also the guy mentioned that they could supply all engine components for an AJP engine and had new engines on the shelf. Oh you can only buy via a dealer from them as well.

And there are so many of those now aren't there ?

If anything at least it is good in principle for the dwindling number of dealers I suppose.
