Photoshop Competition March I - General Chat
Discussion
Ok. New competition time. Do what you want with the following image but detail the techniques you've used. Make them as subtle or as outlandish as you want. Post various different versions in here for comments and critique, the main entry thread will be limited to one per person.
Competition closes Midnight 15th March, I'll judge and post a winner as soon after that as possible. Winner then sets the photo and judges the March II competition, to end 31st March.
Good luck everyone.

Well I've gone for some ageing
Lost Summers

First some dodging and burning to give depth
Adjusted colour balance to warm up the photo
Added white border
Gradient fill on the left to add light leek
Created a new layer in back and white below the colour one
Faded colour layer but kept the detial from the B&W layer
Added dirty paper and blended layer using multiply
Think that was it

My Attempt... i got bored.
Create a duplicate layer... and turn B&W. Then remove the sea from the B&W layer using the erase tool. This allows the colour to shine through. Had a play with the B&W filters and the contrast before adjusting the curves. Same goes for the sea layer. Merge layers together, and play with levels, curves and contrast some more. Save...

Dogsey - what are the rules on originality and copying?
Thanks
How do you mean? Thanks

There is only one image to work with and I guess only a finite number of ways to change it so I would expect to see some similarity in the entries.
ETA: The only thing I would ask is that people all start with my original image rather than building off of someone elses work.

OK, this hasn't worked out quite as I expected (it's really emphasised the jpeg blockiness), but here goes. I was trying for a sort of "2001" effect.

All done in Lightroom:
Greyscale mix:
Red: +17
Orange: +48
Yellow: +100
Green: +100
Aqua: +80
Blue: -100
Purple: -10
Magenta: +63
Split toning:
Highlights: Hue 52 Saturation 100
Shadows: Hue 225 Saturation 100
Balance: 0

I wanted to give the effect of a seaside picture postcard. Enhanced colours a bit, gave it some depth and detail and brought out the details in the background and on the horizon, nothing radical just a nice colourful image.
Used Photoshop CS3 to create 8 different 16-bit tiffs with exposures set at increments of 2 with the original in the middle. Created the HDR image with Photomatix and was then tonemapped altering most of the settings. Tried to keep the overall exposure as close to the original as poss.

This one i called 'Camera Obscura' as it reminded me of the one in Cadiz, Spain. Same pic as above but added Distort Spherize and Render Lighting efects in Photoshop 7. Could even be called 'Planet Britain'
