Can someone give me some basic advise please.
I want to transfer the reg plate from my Tasmin to my Tuscan before I "give my Tasmin away" (or should I say my Wife gives it away).
How is this done please ?

Go to your local DVLA office and fill the forms in to put your cherished No on retention (take all your Tasmin paperwork, V5, MOT, tax disc).

The number cannot go directly onto another car.

You will then get a new log book with the new Reg mark along with new MOT and Tax disc and separately, your retention certificate.

You then take your Tuscan paperwork in, inc. your retention certificate, and they will send the Tuscan V5 off to be updated with your cherished No. They can however issue your new MOT and tax disc there and then and your can put the cherished No onto the Tuscan.

It will cost you £80 plus £25 retention fee at stage one. Nothing at stage two smile

It can. All you need to do is take all the same paperwork for the car you want to put the reg number on to.

yes as long as it's registered in exactly the same name (unless things have changed)

And if you do transfer it to your Tuscan at the same time, I'm fairly sure you dont have to pay the extra £25 retention fee. The retention fee is only if you want to keep hold of it for up to 1 year when you dont know what car its going on etc, then you have to pay another £25 unless you put it on another car.

Every time I've tried to move a reg no I've been summoned to the local DVLA office for evidence of paperwork. Their office, in a stroke of civil service brilliance, has no parking...

I've transferred numbers on 6 cars or so, always went to the DVLA office, as they can sort things out for you there and then.

Also, I've always found them to be quite helpful/friendly.

ah, I have probably tried doing it on a new car. You might have saved me £25 in that case in the next month or so smile

I changed the plates on my wifes car and as mentioned, the DVLA people were friendy and helpful.
Just never transfered from one car to another.
Chester DVLA have got a car park as well so its off to them with all my paperwork.

Thanks again for all the money saving advise,
Tony.
