i am sure i am stuck with the dinosaurs and space invaders here. i have just found a web template and hosting company called www.onlinepictureproof.com what i would like to do would be to register a simple web address and have this as my main memorable address, which then forwards to this site. Do i need to pay for hosting etc, or can you just buy the address and auto redirect people?

Thanks

You would need to buy the new domain and host it somewhere. You can then set the redirect either through the page itself (i.e. through HTML) or the hosting company will be able to do it for you.

so i have found this, which has the name i want, all good, and says this:

Domain only
At 123-reg you get more than just a name; each domain name comes with a free InstantSite homepage, full DNS control, email forwarding & web forwarding and access to an online control panel.

Please forgive my lack of knowledge of the above, but that to me would read that i can purchase the name, for 2 years at £2.79 or whatever per year and this would be what i would need. is that right?

appreciate your help, thanks

Yep, that would do what you need. Contact JamieBeeston at Register1.net (he's a PHer) - he'll be able to sort you out.

Do you need the online proofing thing they are offering though, if you are just looking at an easy way to get a website online then there are better and easier options, at £20 per month after the trial that soon gets to be an expensive way to have an online presence. I would say you could set up a static site using a template and basic hosting (from about £20 per year) and then even integrate with photobox or similar if you wanted to sell direct from the site.

The online proofing is a definate plus in my book. i did consider the route of just having a presence, but the fact it is so easy to update, i have a few events and weddings coming up this year, and i am more than confident that the £20 a month will be a worth while investment with the option of easily selling prints online using CC payments.

i am saying this, i am just about to test buying a print from myself to see the whole process, so it may crash and burn yet smile haha
