My mate has an 81 Mini which has just failed it's MOT, mostly due to rot in the floor pan both on the driver and passenger sides. Not really being into cars himself, he has offered to me the car for free. The engine is fine and runs pretty well. How much would it cost (ballpark obviously!) to get the floor welded?
The rest of the car is actually in pretty good nick BTW and I really think it's worth saving, I just would like to know what the major expense will be before I dive headfirst into the project, if you know what I mean!

Get someone independent to check for rust in all the usual places.
Especialy check in the beck end of the rear glove boxes to see if the rear sub-frame mountings are OK. If they are not, it'll be an expensive job.
Check also the inner and outer sills, the 'A-panels', screen scuttle panel, boot floor/rear valence and, really, everywhere else you can get to.
Good luck with this. Save it if you can - they'll never make any more!

Thanks for the advice. This is exactly why I want to save it, I'll probably give Croydon Minis a try for the rust inspection. After that I've just got to convince the missus, I think I'll need more luck with this than the restoration!!!
