Xbox 360 configuring controller help

Hi all
Ive recently got into my 360 and am playing Halo 3 online. trouble is I need to change some of the buttons as I cant get used to where they are. In the setup it only seems to let you change it for other defaults. Does anyone know if there is a way that you can just change certain buttons?
