A most peculiar thing happened.
The 'L-drive onto the speedo on my 1964 Cooper 'S' failed. I have to use an L-drive into the speedo in order to run the speedo cable (a longer one from an 1100) to the sensor for the Brantz trip meter in the LH instrument panel (it's a rally car). I got one from a Range Rover, fitted it and the speedo now reads KPH rather than MPH. In other words, at an indicated 80 MPH it's actually doing 80 KPH. It's not a problem, just a nuisance.
The trip meter is reading correctly, as you would expect, but does anyone know if the Range Rover L-drive is geared up in the ratio of 5 to 8?
It's a bit strange really.
Right, back to the comp ratio calculations I just agreed to do for someone who phoned yesterday.
