i was going to change the head gasket again but had a change of heart and decided to take the engine out. Cooperman: i thought long and hard about this rebuild and all the information you gave me (thanks alot for all that info and your time) and ive decided to make this my first build but im not going to the extent that we descussed. Im going to use the metro engine because it has less miles a better gear box and its stripped, cleaned and painted. Im going to re gasket the whole engine, new clutch, new cam, almdon yellow dizzy, new carb (size debatable), 1.5 roller rockers, head skim, bigger valves and new diff for a bit more pull. I got some pics of todays progress and of my machanic friend jeff being weirrrd

p.s does any body know how to find out the spec of metro engine via my engine number, is there a site for this kind of search... thanks neale..

you shouldnt really disconnect the brake master/servo like that.

better to undo the two nuts/ one bolt on the main bracket, pull the pin out the pedal linkage and disconnect the air pipe at the manifold end.

the whole thing can then be moved and rested on the wing (under a rug)(id fit a pair of those braided hoses at the same time (if you do, mark the pipes before you undo the metal pipes!))

they tend to leak air past the rubber o ring on the servo if you pull the air pipe out like you have done as its not designed to be taken apart there. its not a service part either.

ive made this mistake before...........

im still alive, a bit battered, but still on crutches, ive had all the pots removed and and just waiting for my lh foot to heal fully and to retain some strength in my arms and hopefully the ability to walk without either a stick or a crutch (though this is probably going to be a long term thing) before i go back to work.

im a bit like an old man at the moment - i need to have a sleep for a couple of hours in the afternoon, but the amount of work my body has done just fixing 'me' its not surprising!

it was a massive accident, and one i was very lucky to a) survive and b) escape with no head or back injuries.

a very humbling experience.
