Now that my Chimaera has turned 11 years old, the AA want to charge me just over £100 for each 14 day trip - rather than £85 for unlimited (max 90 days per trip but any number of trips) annual cover as before. RAC seem to do a better deal at £165 for unlimited annual cover. Any one got any ideas/comments on the best European Breakdown Cover around?

Thanks - with that figure your car must be under 5 years old, you are a member of the RAC (10% discount) and you took out the cover on line (10% discount). Costs go up as the car ages it would appear.

Try Norwich Union. They do 'personal cover' and will take your newest motor to calculate the premium and still allow you to call them out to any vehicle you're travelling in. The system works as my Griff is my third car, does not appear on the NU breakdown policy as our daily cars are shown for joint personal cover and I've had to call them out to the Griff in the past. As NU is part of Aviva which bought RAC, you can even get an RAC van come to you when needed.

Get insured with hagerty and have their international cover. Its 50 pounds and lasts for 3 months. My cerb broke down in Greece last summer. they shipped the car back and paid for my flights. great service!

RAC is good because it's flexible. I drive in France on average once a month in one of four different cars (one of which 'lives' in France) and as the driver is covered, not the car as in most other policies, the same policy covers me in all those cars. On top of that there's a 'no claims' discount. And (probably best of all) TVRCC members get a further discount which last year, IIRC, covered the cost of my TVRCC membership. When I've needed them they've turned up on time, so no complaints from me.

Me to, I pay 83 Euro / year. They have shipped my Tuscan back to England once last year. Very friendly and efficient as you would expect.
They seem to be run by car enthusiasts.

It's only the German AA, but full Euro cover is standard... and they are much better at handling problems all over Europe (do I trust some English tele-jockey to look after me in Italy?). What people may not realize is that you get cover here in the UK as well - its all inclusive. You just have to deal with friendly people in Munich thats all wink

All details are at www.adac.de, there are some English parts, but you may be better looking at the site with a translator (babelfish?) if you don't understand German. Don't worry about the language, their staff speak very good English if you have to call, and local numbers are available in each country wink
