Pass the anti depressants.....
After my first rally (as a driver) in over 20 years I set about sorting the oil leak from the engine.
Worked out it was the timing chain cover gasket.
Stripped it out, refaced the front plate and the tc cover and repaired a small leak from the front face of the cover too.
All back together and hey, no leak......
(end of part 1)

(part 2)
Swopped the 10" rally wheels back to my (12&quotwink road wheels last night and found that one of the new wheel nuts must have a dodgy thread and has damaged stud. Found spare stud but need new nut.....
Took the car out today and
1) there is a strange almost like a wind noise coming from the engine bay high up
2) there is a low grating type noise which sounds a bit wheel bearing ish but could be something else
3) I still have a leak but this time it's either blowing out the dipstick hole as there is a large oily puddle adjacent or it's the crank pulley oil seal as the fan belt is oily and the bottom pulley is wet or my repair to the cover has failed. If it's this area again, it means removing the tc cover again and as the front plate threads are really close to be knackered .........
Back in the '70s I used to get told that imps were always trouble and i should have bought a mini. I would swop this car for an Imp at the moment, so much easier to work on, and I wouldn't get anymore head scars from the bonnet catch either.
There are times I feel like abandoning this car

dont do anything hasty mate, i feel for you as im in the same position with my mini. as you probly know ive blew two head gaskets in 1 week and my matrix has packed up. Shes off the road for a while now im very upset. im getting a rebuild soon on my spare metro engine but i mite just go for round 2 head gasket change just for the experience but this time im going to use 1 of 2 spare heads i have just incase this 1 is damaged, i dont want to spend any money in this operaration apart from the head gasket part no: bk 450 i believe. I just hope the valves ,rockers and pushrods etc, transfer over to 1 of the other heads i have with no problems (is this ok to do?). i may buy new valves if necessary or reseat the old ones if possible. hopefully this will cure it til i take it out. I took me insurance off it today and put it on my polo, so i cant even drive her but i get to gain a little more knowledge when i build the head up. As for the f#@ckin bonnet, i got 3 cuts on my head off that bloody catch so im going with FWDs idea (bonnet off). keep cool mate..neale..

Tony,
If you need one I'm sure I could find a spare front plate for you with decent threads. Just let me know.
Now, here is a thought re. your oil leak:
I once did an engine rebuild and I had to use the newer pressed type of oil gallery plug. There was an oli leak of noticeable amount and, after replacing the timing cover gasket and the bottom pulley oli seal (again) it turned out that the leak was from the new oil gallery plug which sits partly behind the front plate. You can see it, but can't get at it to change it.
With rad out and timing gears off, the front plate dcomes off easily and I managed to withdraw the offending pressed plug, replacing it with one of the earlier solid brass plugs which I managed to get from a local MG specialist.
This cured it, but now as you can only get the pressed ones, you must make sure you assemble them with 'Loctite' or a similar locking and sealing agent. I know that for frequently stripped engines the plug holes can be drilled and tapped to take screw-in plugs, but that's a bit expensive for a road engine.
Do a 'quick-fit' bonnet removal modification to avoid further damage to head (your head, that is!).
