Spares Rip off, or Not?

I require a set of front discs for my 1980 Lotus Elite,and have been told that Triumph GT6 discs will fit, I enquired as to this modification with my regular Spares dealer and was told that this was incorrect and that I would have to purchase Lotus discs at 3 times the cost of the Triumph discs. Now I don't Have a problem with brand loyalty,and would rather use the "proper" parts but, 3times the price is taking the mick don't you think?! Does anyone know for sure wether the GT6 discs will fit, I do hope so. Thanks in advance Simon.

Depends. For older cars, availability is more the issue than absolute cost; assuming the Lotus ones are still cheaper than paying an engineering shop to cast some from scratch?

I don't know anything specific about Elites I'm afraid, but there's a yahoo groups list called Lotus4Seaters who will almost certainly know.

Or have you tried somebody like AP racing - a set of aftermarket discs/pads/calipers couls be available at less then the official ones?
