As you some of you know, i changed my head gasket last weekend and shes been running great, no problems at all. Ive been taking it easy for the last week, ive been keeping the revs down for atleast 120 miles since the gasket change, but today the sun was shining so i took the wife and kids to the park and drove round for a few hours, then went home dropped them off and went for a play on my own. I turned on to kings norton business park which is a long straight for about a mile and opened her up to about 5500rpms 90-100mph (it got there slowly) i then slowed down for a island to come back round and retured at about 40mph taking it easy then BURRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! sounds like the head gasket has blown between 2-3 again (how? why?) but this time i had no power at all only crawling power (5mph) i parked in the pub car park 5 mins from home luckily and called a my pall to tow me home.

So thats it im hanging up the mini keys till she has a new engine built. Im swapping the insurance over to my polo tomorow im dreading it, its a good little runner but not quite a mini. oh well shit happens this is just a kick up the arse to get the new engine done..neale..

Ah well, hate to say it but reading your earlier head gasket thread doesnt seem like you investigated the reason for the lower compression on 2 & 3 after you last changed it - these things will come back to bite you!

Still, youve been there and done that now so itll take half the time it did before, and just take the stripped head off to a machine shop to check it out and get it crack tested.

ok rub it in.. youre right is should have have checked it all first but i dont no if its worth doing. its gona cost me atleast £150+ getting it skimmed and tested, ive spent to much on it now considering its coming out sooner or later any way so im taking it out sooner rather than later and getting cooperman to do me a custom build.. cant wait.THERE HAS BEEN A LESSON LEARNT..

Tough luck there - but not necessarily the end of the world here - sounds like new engine on the cards regardless but there are some truly awful head gaskets out there you may have just fitted a motor factor cheapie... in any event when the head is torqued down - it has to be retorqued a few days later to ensure all is consistently fine - a rubbish gasket, no retorque and a good rant may just be the cause of second failure without anything more sinister going on - before giving up it just may be worth a couple of hours grief and a tenner on doing it all again....
