Is it only the elite that has a hdmi port ?

No, the latest premiums have them too and I think you might even be able to get the core (sorry, arcade) ones with it.

All 360 comes with hdmi capabilities now.

The arcade comes with a normal lead (Red/yellow/white)

The Premium come with a component cable (redl/yellowl/white) and (red/green/blue)

The Elite comes with the job all of the above plue an actual HDMi cable.

There are 3rd party add ons which will let you use HDMI on older boxes.

Haven't tried them myself, i imagine they will be better than VGA. One problem is they work by converting the analogue video output back into digital, but this is done so close to the connector there isn't chance for the picture to get "dirtied" by cable lengths which is usually the case with VGA/Component.

Numerous reviews/comments i have read suggest that most people won't be able to tell the difference between
VGA and HDMI, so i wouldn't go spending money just for the sake of it on such a cable.See if you can try one
first.

From my own experience and equipment I can see a difference between VGA and HDMI, mostly its ringing artefacts of high contrast images in the VGA connection, that is down to cable length(and quality) aswell as interference. Given a very expensive monster VGA cable that costs about £100 then maybe you would get identical image quality.

I am a bit of an enthusiast when it comes to this kind of thing so i guess most people won't give a toss about the difference, VGA is still very good (and cheap!)
