For a bit of fun and presuming you just happened to have the money...

Given early Tuscans could probably be down to top Griff money next year and that you can snap up a cheap Chim on Ebay for 7K and do it up, which would you buy?

Lets say you had 13K to spend on a Tuscan (Not Red rose) or a top dog 500 Griff. You could also spend 7K on a Chim400 and have 6K to modify it to your individual tastes(fancy that blower conversion?). Lets say in each case the mileage would be similar (40K) and they all had TVR service history. mot, tax. etc.

Options:
1. Tuscan with those great looks and lovely interior, but all the usual worries?
2. A soon to be Classic restored or low mileage Griff the legendary "Widow Maker"?
3. A Chimaera that you use every day or you could turn into a track day "hooligan"?

Take a little time to consider the options and if you like, post a reply providing reasons for your choice.

For me it would be a Chim 500 then have it super chargered, nitrons fitted, big break conversion, Toyo R888's, race seats and harnesses, carpets and interior stripped, decatted mmmmmmm lick

I'm taking the latter route - not entirelyby choice but there you go. £6K worth of Chim, a hi-po engine rebuild of which the retail price would be quite a bit in excess of that plus whatever is needed to complete the package.

Lows - it takes lots of time. I dread the bill coming my way for engine re-install and associated work as in the technician's words 'I seem to be falling from one unexpected thing into another!' (edit - and this is just a standard engine re-install - all the 'special' bits are inside the lump).

Highs - after it's done it should not only be a rather special car, but also a lasting pleasure. After you've gone through everything and done everything properly, you know where you stand with an RV8 Tiv. Engine should be good for at least another 100K miles.

Hmmm think we are well past that point - look at what Agger has sold in the last few months - 1999 Griff and 2003 Tuscan both at the same price! -and the Griff sold within hours! while the Tuscan took a little longer.

Also look at the prices Fernies are asking for good low mileage Griffs - no different than 2 years ago.

Dealers do make me laugh - buy them in clean them and charge 3k more than private. hahaha

What ever keep the prices up.

Mine will be up for sale in 2 - 3 weeks - mind a darn sight more than any other Chim or Griffwink

My Chim cost me just under 7k. It's getting the head gasket done at the moment as it blew the other week. I reckon I've spent about a further 2k on it now. I did expect to spend some money on it though and like 900T-R above, once I've finished sorting it, it will be a brilliant car that I'll keep for years....

An old 7k chim might be ok, but if not maintained well and a 400 a Puma will p*ss on it in most circumstanceswink

Personally I'd go for a late chim with low mileage. Yes you could get a low end Tuscan for that money, but you need to have at least 5K in the bank (maybe more) just in case the worst should happen. I plan to upgrade to a Tuscan in the future, but only when I have enough money stored away for a rain day biggrin
