While taking some photos of a relations kids, one of the lads accidentally wacked the lower LCD screen on the rear of my new 1Ds:

Does anybody have any idea of how much this will cost to replace? And, is it a job a butter fingers like myself could do?

I wouldn't even attempt it frankly. Probably the camera is still under warranty and since it isn't full season yet I'd send it back to canon and suffer the bill. If you censored it up in doing it yourself the overall cost could be much much higher. This isn't a point a shoot throw away but a serious pro tool. I'm a Nikon man but if my D3 had the same problem, same answer - I wouldn't even think about it.

Give Canon a call, or fixation, and also try on the home insurance. It shouldn't be too pricey, surely.

Let us know how you get on. And well done on getting a great camera smile

Thanks for the advice offered smile

I'm currently in Thai;and so the chances of being covered by home insurance is zero I would think.

I did however take out insurance with: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I was going to cancel this policy de to the feedback given in that thread, but ran out of time due to having to travel to Thailand sharpish due to a family bereavement.

I recall them having an excess of approx £250 - surely it won't cost this much to fix?

Are you a member of Canon Professional services? You can join up if you have 3 L lenses and two pro bodies (inc 10D etc) by entering the serial number on the website. They should have a branch in Thailand that can help you.

home insurance may well cover it outside the home (doesn't matter which country you are in Andy). Depends on what your policy states. My camera stuff is all insured outside the home under my household policy. Only problem you might have is the 'single item value' with your camera. If you put in a claim, it might be worth describing it as damage to camera screen accessory rather than to the actual camera itself...

Both they and Lehmann's have quoted £30 - £15 parts, £15 labour. Not bad at all smile

No need for an insurance jobbie either.

Great result.

Be sure to show some results from the camera when you get a chance.

I've not had it long, and Thailand's my first chance to have a play, but hopefully these whet your appetite wink :
