Maybe you could have a dig around and see if you can see any news stories about how it was done with that "French Military Victories" site?

Goto Webmonkey.com and have a look around on there.

You need to look at Meta Tags, and getting it linked from lots of sites will help too.

It's an incredibly complex business that people earn good money from learning.

Don't stress out too much about it because there's no simple answer and you could spend months trying to work out how to do it.

Follow some simple guidelines (and then work on other marketing strategies)

- don't use frames
- use meaningful links i.e. links with 'my chimaera' rather than 'click here' for my chimaera
- have a simple navigation system that links all pages
- have relavent titles and text
- images should have relavent 'alt' text
- avoid splash pages
- use metatags for descrptions and titles but be aware that many spiders don't use them so don't get too hung up on it
- don't try to cheat with white text on white backgrounds etc
- have relavent page names e.g. chimaera.htm rather than mycar.htm
- swap links with many sites. Inbound links do your credibility a lot of good with the spiders

These simple steps will greatly improve things. Then get on with the job in hand. If you try and second guess how search engines work or try to trick them then you'll just waste no end of time and potentially damage your rankings.

have a look at http://forums.seochat.com

and if you're specifically interested in optimising your website for google then be sure to read "PageRank Uncovered":

www.supportforums.org/PageRank.pdf

get a listing in dmoz.org (free). many other directories (http://directory.google.com, http://dir.yahoo.com, etc) use their data so you could end up with many inbound links just by submitting to dmoz once!

With Google you tend do better the more sites link to you - one of the main ways it ranks you is on how many sites link to your site..

so get as many sites as possible to link to you - oh it doesn't count sites on the same domain in case you may think about about loads of sub-domains - swapping links is good thing afa google is concerned.
