I am going to install the proAlloy intercooler and Roush Exhaust on my M400.

Can anyone tell me the benefits of the hard pipe kit. Is it just looks or does it also yield additional power, if power what sort of levels are we talking about.

The intercooler upgrade comes with a hard pipe between the intercooler and the throttle body where I will install a BOV.

Any help appreciated.

The group buy finishes on Friday.

I don't think the hard pipe kit will produce more power, but it may help with throttle response.
I fitted a hard pipe to mine as I noticed the silicone intake pipe was actually collapsing when the throttle was blipped from idle.
you could check if this is happening to yours.
If not it may be better to leave the hard pipe off as some of the folks on the American forum have had issues with the intake manifold/plenum splitting. (apparently due to the extra weight) though I wonder if it may also be due to the rigidity of the pipe and movement of the engine on its mounts causing fatigue, the manifold is plastic and was never designed for +ve boost pressure!
Just my 2p worth.

The hard pipe kit definatly improves throttle response but as F.C said, it won't make more power. Make sure you upgrade the fuel pump wiring when you do the exhaust!

Ross, he has an M400, surley it doesn't need to upgrade the pump?

Why do people reckon that you need to re map following fitting a Roush exhaust ...does it really affect the mixture in the combustion chamber ? I'm interested cos I'm thinking of fitting one .

I said the Fuel Pump 'Wiring'....the pump is fine on the M400 but the wiring is poo!

They reckon the Roush exhaust gives 20bhp extra so a remap would be sensible to ensure you are not running lean/rich and to get the best out of the engine's ability to make use of its improved breathing.

I did a pre and post dyno run and gained 40bhp and the same for torque after fitting the Rouch exhaust. Then another 20bhp after Trevor Jasper got to work with his laptop! wink

I case my rest my lord.......

60 bhp.

I think I got something like that as well. Hopefully a lot more to come as well with the VNT Turbos and 1 bar boost (as a start).

I've heard this , but I'm a bit confused why allowing the turbo to breathe more freely affects the mixture as , I would assume , if it boosts slightly better for any conditions , the Map (boost) sensor will register this and richen the fuel up ...ie ...in the ECU the map will look at a boost and advance figure and find the relevant fuelling time ?

dont worry , I'll just accept that the mapping is required and does the trick ! smile..cheers everyone !

Only between certain parameters, hence the need to remap.

I was a bit sceptical as well but the car felt much better after it had been fettled on Trevors laptop

sounds well worth it ...just got a call in to Roush about cost of exhaust systems ! smile

Bout £2.5k including ceramic coating and then about £250 for the remap. If you have the M400 fuel pump you will save some money there.

And perhaps more importantly in most cases, it will allow you to find any other problems that may be there (lambda, idle etc.). The freer breathing showed up an idle issue when I had mine fitted.

Sorry Ross, read it as Pump and wiring, oops
