TVR 1600M : problem with distributor
Discussion
Hello,
I have a TVR 1600M, and I am planning to install 2 WEBER 40 DCOE on an inlet manifold of 70 mm.
I have a problem with my distributor FORD Motorcraft, I need an distributor with the wire assy arriving laterally on the distributor cap.
What type of distributor is necessary? LUCAS or other ....
(Sorry for my English)
Bruno

Bruno. You have hit the nail on the head. Throw away the motorcraft Dissy. They are useless. You will need a side entry cap and a Lucas Dissy. Although I believe you can use a top entry cap with webers but not delortos because a dellorto accelerator pump is on the bottom of the carb bodyI have a TVR 1600M, and I am planning to install 2 WEBER 40 DCOE on an inlet manifold of 70 mm.

if you are running even a mildly tunes crossy then the motorcraft dissy will not cope since the advance retard mechanism is crap and doesn't swing far or fast enough. Throw it in the bin.
these 2 places should sort you out.

You can run a top entry cap with webers.
But Bruno. throw the motorcraft away mate and buy a Lucas from Aldon.
Neil.
Thanks for your help.
Indeed as stated TVRBUELL there is in the range FORD distributor LUCAS. This is a track to deepen this week.
Otherwise ALDON the site does not work, for the moment.
The FORD distributor can be mounted with a WEBER inlet manifold when using cranked sparkplug wires. I tried this afternoon.

This is from the Aldon website:
FORD X/FLOW AND TWIN CAM (ALL LUCAS BASED)
103FX1 A non-vacuum distributor, to suit X/Flow engines, fitted with side draught carburettors but which retain the standard 'GT' camshaft.
103FXY A non-vacuum distributor, which suits most tuned X/Flow engines using
camshafts such as A2, BCF1, Piper 270,285, Kent 234,244 in conjunction with side draught carburettors. N.B. A vacuum unit must not be used when an engine is fitted with side draught carburettors.
103FXYV On some X/Flow engines with a twin choke down draught carburettor it may be possible to have a vacuum fitted.
103FXYS Identical to the 100FXY but fitted with a distributor cap which has the H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top. This is normally necessary when a pair of side draught carburettors are fitted to 1100 and 1300 engines. However we cannot guarantee fitment if the block has be skimmed to a great extent.
103FXR A distributor for race specification X/Flow's. Full details of the engine specification are required.
103FXRS Identical to the 100FXR but fitted with a distributor cap which has the H.T. leads coming out of the side instead of the top.
103TC A non-vacuum distributor which suits most twin cam engines from standard to virtually full race.
NOTE: They are all Lucas based.
