Just been offered (and subsequently bought) a Canon EOS 20D from a mate of mine. With a lens, and 256MB CF card.

£150 - bargain?

It will be in pristine condition and not much used.

Definitely a bargain. Worth £250-300 if in A1 condition. The memory card's a bit small but you can get a 4Gb Sandisk Extreme 3 for peanuts these days.

Which lens are you getting with it?

Not sure, I didn't ask him but probably a standard zoom lens. I have a couple of lenses on my film camera anyway, including a 50mm prime.

It will be in A1++++ condition, hes a cameraman like me and takes good care of his kit. He sold me his last camera, a D60, to upgrade to the 20D!

Been looking at what I could get for my 20D on ebay. Prices range from £250 - £300.

Normally come with kit lens - £30/50 to buy seperately.

You'll need a bigger faster memory card - Play.com 2 gig fast card for £15, maybe just under.

excellent deal I'd say. Makes me all the more certain I will keep mine as back up to my 5D!

Right, I got it, sans memory card.

So I'm thinking a 4GB Sandisk, along these lines:

or a cheapy 2GB card here:

Now I've bought tonnes of cheap non-branded RAM from Scan and never once had a problem - so which would be best? I doubt I'd ever fill the 2GB let alone the 4GB (unless I shot RAW)

I shoot on a 2gig card withmy 350d - same sized files as the 20d.

Get up to 250 raw on the card and about 600-700 jpg I think.

20D wont write faster than an extreem II or so , so its not worth buying the flashest ones now puerly on speed.

Go to PLAY.COM.

Their 2Gb Sandisk Extreme III's are only £15.99 (4Gb come in at £22.99). FREE delivery, too biggrin

It'll be well worth the little extra - you'll benefit from much faster write times.

I've got a cheap 4Gb card and get nowhere near the camera's suggested FPS.

Good call on play.com - I wish I'd known they did stuff like that, only the other day I ordered a few CDs from them frown

Bought a 2gig smile

Right I've been playing around with it just now, went for a ride on the bike and did some panoramas:

The trouble is that I have this problem:

I presume its a lens thing, I have 2 other lenses but haven't tried them yet. Any input?

I can't see a problem, that's just light from a point source, bouncing around inside the lens. It's normal, they even fake it on X-Box games etc.

Yeah, either you're very talented or we're being conned! Good images though!

THe lens flare is a pain on any lens, though cheaper optics and those with more elements will be worse than most. To minimise it try removing any filters from the front of the lens, ensure everything is clean and stop the lens down a bit (if things are bad try f11 ish), though bare in mind this will dramatically increase exposure times...

no pointers necessary...love the picture, love the shadings and colours.

Stitching is little off....but that doesn't spoil the image. Top stuff.

Another question. How do I access the RAW images? I shot a load of things today in RAW+L, I can see the jpeg's fine, but the RAW images - where are they?

I'm using the Canon Digital Photo Professional software, it offers me no clues.

The firmware of the camera is quite old, 1.something - could it be that? I can't upgrade it just yet as I need a card reader for the CF card.
