Hello guys:

My name is Mohamed Al Gammal; I'm a mechanical engineering student at Alexandria University, Egypt. I represent a group of five students who are involved in one graduation project for next year. We are all automotive enthusiasts, that's why we've chosen our project to be a small high performance car.

And to introduce my self better, I'm a 2 years-in-a-row winner of the Motor Trend international automotive design contest, for the year 2000 I won first place for the amateurs 18+ category, and this year I won third place as a design student and I've got my award only 2 months ago at Los Angeles. (This can also be verified, or you can check www.mtdesigncontest.com for this and last years' results). I've mentioned that just to prove my enthusiasm.

I've started working on my graduation project which is a small roadster, for 2 passengers, with a mid engine and a very light weight. The preliminary figures are 2.0 liters inline 4 supercharged engine developing about 165 bhp, and a total weight of about 500 Kg (about 1000 lbs.) materials will be aluminum for the chassis and fiberglass for the body. The design will lead a minimalistic way, nothing but the necessary will be found.

All we need is help from someone who's done it right before, as we don't have auto industry here in Egypt, we'd like to be guided by some professionals. And I wish you can help us.

Thanks a lot and have a nice time.
Yours truly,
Mohamed Al Gammal

My old VW Polo G40 was a 1.3 litre supercharged and that had 150bhp. Surely you could get 165bhp without the supercharger or 200bhp plus with it?

Or how about a 2.0/2.2 Honda VTEC unit developing 200+bhp?

Then you just drop the vowels from your Christian name and you stick whats left on the front!!

I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of that when it's finished!

My best advice would be to write in to the Kit car magazines, there are also a couple of web sites. Also you could try & write to some of the kit car manufacturers, they are all quite small and you may even find that with your qualifications they are willing to assist with backing.

I built a Westfield and an NG (classic) kit car over the past few years but am not qualified to really provide you with the info you will need.

An advert in the kit magazines 'letters' section may well turn something up. Ones called Which Kit and the other just Kit Car 'KC' for short. They also have web sites.

Good luck with it, should get a 0-60 of 6 secs or less on that power to weight ratio
