Recommend me a good red
Discussion
Not being a fan of white wine (it gives me acid) I tend ty try more reds
I've got a few favourites but is there anything worth giving a go rather than buying the same time and time again?
To give you and idea of what I like I've always got bottles of the following in the cupboard;
Bonarda Dolce - Bulli
Cabernet Sauvignon - Wolf Blass (yellow label)
Rioja Crianza - Marqués de Cáceres

don't know what your local wineshop is but odds on you have an Oddbins near by
Glen Carlou Syrah is one of the best wines in S. Africa and a snip at £13.
Other great reds I buy in Oddbins are two spanish reds by Alejandro Fernandez called Condado de Haza and Pesquera. Both are sub £15 and Pesquera has a few older siblings (Reserva and Janus) which are world class and up there with the Petrus and lafites of the world.
I like D'Arenberg wines and the Galvo Garage is good at £11

I'd second those recommendations.Other great reds I buy in Oddbins are two spanish reds by Alejandro Fernandez called Condado de Haza and Pesquera. Both are sub £15 and Pesquera has a few older siblings (Reserva and Janus) which are world class and up there with the Petrus and lafites of the world.
Another personal favourite that's fairly widely available through Oddbins is the Domaine Belle Crozes-Hermitage 'Les Pierrelles' - perfect for sipping on a cold dark evening with a stew or a good roast. Priced at about £12.

Most Valpolicella Amarone's are exceptionally good in the 15 - 20 quid price range.
At the other end of the scale (mrs M & I have a glass or two of wine every night), Yellow Tail Shiraz is very good and widely available, Wolf Blass Shiraz is good, Casillero Del Diablo is a favourite as well.

Barolo from Waitrose - £30 bottle. You'll thank me.
Keeping with the Italians in supermarkets, there's currently a Banfi Brunello di Montalcino in Tescos for £15 and a lovely Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano in Sainsburys for £8/9. Look for the Caffagio Chianti Classico in most supermarkets for a reasonable "everyday" Italian red.Gassing Station | Food, Drink & Restaurants | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
