What would you do?
Discussion
I know there is policy of not naming and shaming on PH but. I'm getting really hacked off with treatment I'm getting from a well known specialist in the TVR world. My car is two months overdue being returned to me, numerous telephone calls, to which I sometimes I get one back but not that often, my problem is always 'some one else's fault', I'm at my wits end and to make it worse I was stupid enough to have paid for the work before it was finished (yes I know I was stupid but I acted in good faith)
Assuming your specialist is local to you, you could update your profile to show which region you are in
Also, have you visited in person and asked to see the car recently? I would say that you are coming down in 2 days (be specific about the time and date) to inspect the work and that you want the car in a driveable condition so that you can take it away if you choose to.
Once you are there, you can decide how you want to play it. You need to be assertive but not aggressive. Before hand arm yourself with every quote, invoice, letter etc. as well as a typed up list of all the phone calls and conversations you've had with them, including the broken promises, with dates. Make sure you see the manager. If they don't have the car ready to drive away, or promised to be so within a day or two, say that you have taken advice and will now be proceeding with further action, using the file you've shown them. Don't go into who you have taken advice from or what action, that's between you and your 'advisers'. You just need to stay calm, firm and confident. My recommendation would be a letter asking for immediate completion of the repairs, copied to a solicitor, with copies of all the stuff you took down. If that really doesn't work then I'd start worrying as they clearly have more serious problems than one disatisfied customer. You are then into trading standards and starting the solicitor to take action which costs real money.
All of the above just in my humble opinion, based on what you said. The above approach has worked for me a couple of times before in similar situations (actually my wife who is great at taking these people on).

would you like me to go round and sort them out for you? Us girls can be quite nasty when we're hormonal
Sorry to hear about your woes, guess this is what happens when you pay up front, they don't have the incentive to work to get the money. Don't know where you'd stand legally, have you tried talking to the C.A.B or a solicitor at all?

What sort of excuses are you getting? If you learn from people here that they are also experiencing these problems your garage might be telling the truth. The reason that I say this is that to change my front wishbones last August took nearly 8 weeks to get the right parts at the right quality, for such a simple job. If I was dealing with a garage I would also suspect that that the garage would be giving me the run-around if they explained to me what I experienced directly. It was a joke really. You might be in a similar situation?
