Skopos Motor museum

i was there today and its a great place....its now called the Yorkshire Motor Museum ( although there are still signs all over for the Skopos Motor Museum) and its address is Alexandra Rd, Batley, WF17 6JA and is open 7 days a week( for those who would like to visit) and you can drop the wife off at the mall close by or Red Brick Mill ( the big funiture emporium, although this can be dangerous to your bank balance! and meet her later for coffee in one of the great coffee shops in Red Brick Mill)and visit the museum at your leaisure as there is parking available ( free) and entry in free ( although you are asked to make a donation as its a non profit trust).....in the museum they are now making recreations of the first Benz and the first motor car which is interseting to see and also you will see a lotus elan, some e-types, a 30s Bently ( the blue lady i think it is) and a Panard lavassar ( 1902) and some other vetrans, a great Riley 30s sports model, a wonderul Renault about 1902 or so with a horseless carrige ex-pulled by horses mounted on top and with a flute attacheded to the exhaust which you pull up from the "dash" to produce a whistle from the exhaust gasses, a Maserati Ghibli 60s and a 1924 (i think) Sunbeam having the engine rebuilt, a Jowet racer and a van, and strange 3 wheeler from i would think the 30s, a ford pickup truck, quite a few classic motor bikes including a Brough Superior, and lots of old bicycles, Triumph TR6, Morris Minor, some airoplane enthusiasts are building a kitty Hawk in the corner, a Triumph Roadster, a great Jag MK2, and quite a few others i have forgotten....also you will find my own three cars, a 1964 Jag e-type FHC in gun metal grey, a Ferrari 308 and my Lamborghini Countach LP400 which is a very rare car and worth a look for anybody into 70s sports cars...the museum has workshop facilities and the mechanics are Michael ( a Canadian Engineer with great knowledge of veteran and vintage and classic motor engineering) and Eric who is knowledgable and keen to give you interesting info on any car in the museum......the museum, like all museums these days, needs the support of folk interested in old motor cars and although it is not large it is definately worth a visit and i recommend it ....should any PH's want any further info i would be happy to help or put you in touch with the curater.

Good little museum, knowledgable staff and even has a bar on the front of it called Brooklands!
There are a good selection of veteran and vintage cars as well as some more modern sports classics.
The place is owned by a well-known local businessman and his collection of cars (beyond the ones he displays in the museum) is pretty stunning too

Yes thats me! nice to meet u again here......as for a group going to visit the museum i think it would great and if you do manage to put something together and i know the time/date i will advise the museum and make sure u are all well looked after...as i said it is open on Saterday and Sunday so a sunday morning could be a good one and then perhaps go on to Red Brick Mill( its just down the road), or some other place, for breakfast...i seem to remember the Museum opens at 10 on a Sunday morning but i can confirm this....if there is enough interest i am happy to co-ordinate it on your behalf...so register your interest and possible dates NOW! I would quite happily set up a meet for this. As I'm quite interested in this. Think I know a couple of others who would fancy a trip as well.
So if I arrange a weekend in February at some point there would be a few takers?

Well if we arrange it for 10am on a sunday in feb we have the

24th
the 3rd is perhaps too short notice? so maybe if people make a list of when they are available and copy and paste it, then someone can check to make sure they will be open then and are happy for us to visit at that time.
Is there enough safe parking for possibly a few expensive cars there?

I have arranged for Sunday the 17th of February at 10, subject to there being enough interest. i will donate some coffee and buns to the museum , so you can walk round with a mug in your hand....i would imagine those who would like to go to breakfast/brunch would like to leave about 11:30?..the curator feels Red Brick Mill will be very busy by this time and it may be difficult to get a table at the coffee shops with the inevitable quews,so i have chosen Zuccini the resturant just down the road with lots of parking ( breakfast will of course be for your own account but i will try get some idea of prices and food available in the next few days)....those who feel like they would like to come but 10 is too early please advise what time you could make...the car park at the back of the museum is reasonably secluded and i see no reason why the cars would not be safe as there are visiters to the nearby shoe and furniture store around and there is CCTV.....on occasion my own cars have been parked there.....i am open to suggestions (and some help on the day) and feel this should be a relaxed social occasion but i do need some idea of numbers if only as i think we only have about 15 spare cups at the moment! I may move this to its own post but in the meantime:

Sounds good to me. Its a shame its the wrong date for all the people at the Secret Meeting Balmoral Green, maybe some would still like to come along the next week? Scott may be ok to come along then too?
