Just a quickie-

I've just ordered a PS3 (in timing with the end of my exams!) and I plan to take care of the visual side using a HDMI-DVI cable connected to my samsung 206bw monitor. Obviously, by doing so, I won't have any audio

I don't really want to have to buy any more kit (i.e. surround sound receiver or HD tv), so what's the easiest way of connecting my PS3 to my stereo with has 2X RCA stereo input?

Cheers in advance

Quickie answer too!

With the 2X RCA connectors on the multi AV cable that comes with it!

Its a separate connection to the HDMI so you can use both.

Also, if your stereo has an optical digital input then that is even better.

I'm guessing you can set the PS3 to output through the HDMI and MultiAV at the same time then?

One audio output at a time at the moment unless they have changed it recently.

I think quite alot of people would like hdmi and optical on at the same time to save switching when putting a movie on etc...

But you can, thats how I run mine, have done since I got it in June. Hdmi to the TV and optical to the surround sound, works fine.

I agree. That worked from day one.

I have beautiful Dolby Digital and even DTS surround sound out to my amp through the optical lead.

However, I have not personally tried the HDMI *and* the analogue output at the same time, which I think is what the OP is looking for.

A lot of TV though have analogue outs too sometimes.

Yup, that's what I'm aiming for. I don't really have the space to add a surround sound system at the minute, so if it can output audio only through the analogue I'll be a happy man

How do you turn them both on at the same time then? Because mine will only let me have one on at a time and id like them both on so i dont have to switch them over when i want to use the surround sound.

I just run an HDMI cable through to my TV and then phono from my TV to stereo amp - only one cable needed from PS3 and also means I don't have to change anything to listen to regular TV through my stereo. I guess your monitor doesen't have any audio output though?

Having setup my PS3 on my desk last night, I can confirm that I can send my picture out via HMDI, and audio out of the old multiout AV socket into my stereo

Best of all, my monitor can run full 1080 HD so COD4 looks stunning! biggrin

You just need a Dolby Digital setup now so you will be able to hear me when you get shot in the back...
